HE WAS presented a check for $100 as one of three students to share in the Weber State College annual Cortez Honors Competition honoring faculty and students for excellence in scholarship. Collier is a senior majoring in manufacturing engineering technology. He says he has been inventing things since he was in elementary school, and last year put together a 29 lb. bicycle made from seamless aircraft stainless steel. RIGHT NOW I am working on a high mileage carburetor for my truck, he said, explaining that inventing is something he just has to do. e Besides being a student, Collier works as a journeyman machinest for Williams International in Ogden, so most of his inventfull-tim- ing is done before 5 a.m. or after midnight. HE SAID his father was a high school industrial arts and probably to teacher blame for his inventive spirit. I couldnt do it without the support of my family, he said. They are pretty tolerant, he exclaimed, naming his wife, Stacy, and his parents, Wendell and Glenna Collier of Kaysville. He said he has also received financial support for his gold dredge project from his friend - or M-1- Dick Fagg. We will be working together this summer on some proven gold claims, and any others we can get permission to work," he said. M-1- WHITE on WHITE JUKI SERGER 3 or 4 spool Value to $449.00 THE PROTOTYPE vacuum gold dredging machine combines a large-scal- e refining process with a portable system. It is designed to suck river bed sand and rock (up to 4 in diameter) out of the river and into a sluice box floating on the surface. Collier said he has taken garnet and ruby from the Green River with his new invention as he developed it and checked it for safety. But I guess I'm more interested in the invention than in the gold, he said. ea.
