Y ou are going to have a child of your own to care for. THE STUDENTS included both girls and boys. Each was to select a raw egg, give it a face and a personality, and Family-Parentin- 9 then care for it constantly for one week. If it became necessary to leave the egg baby, a sitter had to be found and paid. If the egg baby met with an unfortunate accident and was broken, a report was to be turned in on the cost of a funeral. It was then possible to get permission from Ms. Carey to adopt another egg baby. LOVING mothers and fathers had an interesting and fun week with this learning experience that gave the students new insight into what they may one day face as real parents. Many agreed by the end of the week that Ms. Carey was cor-rewhen she said, There is no harder job in our society than being that unique combination of 24 hour a day child psychologist and teacher we call a parent. THE INSTRUCTOR for this workshop will be Mrs. Suzanne L. Hansen. She is the wife of Michael D. Hansen and the mother of three children. She is a homemaker and author. She was the of childrens book, I Can. In 1980 Mrs. Hansen was Utahs Young Mother of the Year. She teaches arts and crafts and writes a column for her local newpaper. The following topics will be covered in this fun and informative workshop: How To Make Housework Fun; How e MotivaTo Use tional Charts and Games to Create Enthusiastic Helpers; How To Develop the I Can, Mom and Dad Attitude, instead of I Cant; Specific Techniques Parents Can Use to Build a Childs Selfesteem and Confidence; Reward Systems: Allowance versus Payday which to use and when; How to Keep the Sabbath Holy and Interesting; and 15 Saturday projects the Help Make Sunday Successful. WE ENCOURAGE anyone who would be interested to attend this workshop to do so. Registration will be accepted on a basis. Preregistration is encouraged; however, registration will be conducted at the LAYTON Lori Copper--- , man, daughter of Mr. and Mrs." Seymour Copperman, 2375 E. 3100 N., Layton, has been selected as teenager of the year by the Roy Elks Club. She was chosen for this honor from a list of teenagers of the month submitted by all the junior high schools in northern Davis and South Weber counties. for the concert choir. She received the grandprize in biology at the 1982 North Layton Science Fair; second place in the countywide fair and a second place in the regional science fair. She is a volunteer for the Heart Association drive and the Hill AFB Thrift Shop. She is the organist at the Hill AFB Chapel. An accomplished musician, she received a first place award at the Davis District solo and ensemble festival She has played the piano for nine years and the organ for a year. She has participated in many piano recitals and last year she gave a solo piano recital. She was a finalist at the USU Musical Festival in the spring LORI IS a ninth grade student at North Layton Jr. High. She has been studentbody president at the school for 198 82, and is a member of the National Honor Society. She has been consistantly on the citizenship and scholarship honor roll during her three years at the junior high. She was on the Super Kids Drill and Flag team and ran for Miss Jr. Drill USA and received fourth runner-u- p in the nation for her age group. OTHER cheerleaders are Charlynn Cottle, Roxy Rios, Valerie Giffin, all ninth graders, and Kris Bird and Sheila Trujillo, eighth graders. The cheerleaders are selling popcorn and other snack foods for a fundraising project. They held a car wash last week. THE FIRST year Spanish students in Mrs. Snyders Spanish class made pinatas. They had a contest for the best looking ones. The winners were: Greg Squires entry of Garfield the Cat, grand prize; Michelle Bennett, a half a watermelon, first; Jeff of 1982. Lori took second in the classical division of the Hill AFB Talent Show in 1981 and 1982. She received first place in the junior high division of the Keith Jorgensen piano competition in 1982. to continue her studies in music on a college level. Raymond Hamblin of Kaysville. THE Center for is pleased to announce a special y workshop, How To Motivate Young Children to Help at Home (Happily). The workshop will be held May 22, 1982 from 9:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. There will be a one-hahour break for lunch and the participants should bring their own sack lunch.
