Kenneth D. and Shelia Stettler, Kaysville, SAFEWAY MANAGER e A job in the produce department of an Ogden e grocery store turned into a part-tim- full-tim- career for Dennis Graynor, the manager of Layton Super Store. Safe-way- s MR. GRAYNOR will celebrate his 25th year with the Safeway company on March 25. An Ogden native, Mr. Graynor went to work for Safeways while he was attending Weber High School and Weber College. He started out e as a produce clerk. part-tim- BY DEC of 1960 he had been promoted to produce manager. Other advancements in the Safeway organization quickly followed: assistant manager of the Fort Lane Shopping Center store in Layton in 1965; acting store manager of this outlet in 1968; store manager at the same location in 1969; manager of a new store in Ogden in Nov. 1972; a move to Boise, Ida. in Sept. 1976 to open a larger store; manager of a Salt Lake store in January 1980 and finally, manager of the Layton Super Store in June of 1980. A super store is the newest concept of retailing in the Safeway Corporation. It is a store of the future, Mr. Graynor says. The Layton store en closes 44,000 square feet. large company offers. The potential for unlimited advancement based on individual performance and individual desires encourages him to perform well. The challenge of organizing people into a successful work force is appealing to Dennis Graynor. He takes pride in the staff that runs Laytons Safeway store. There are many expanded departments including a deli, a bakery, a pharmacy, a nutrition center and a full service camera bar. LAYTONS Safeway store e employs 60 full and people. There is little turn-ovin the Safeway employees. Mr. Graynor says this is because of the professional way the stores are run. Wages and benefits are good. This has given Mr. Graynor the chance to spend many hours with his son as they work on the project together. As manager of the Layton Safeway store, Mr. Graynor is also active in the affairs of Layton. Mr. Graynor says whenever a person is hired, he asks himself, Could this young person someday become a store manager?
