Golden Ave., Layton, will celebrate a special mission festival Sunday. To help with the celebration the Rev. Oscar L. Sylwester, retired chaplain in the U.S. Air Force, will be the featured speaker. He will be the speaka.m. er at both the 8:30 and services. His topic will be John E. (Jack) Murphy, 65, of 975 E. 1175 S., No. 10, Kaysville, died Wednesday, Jan. 27 at the Davis North Medical Center in Layton. HE WAS born Sept. 26, 1916, in Salt Lake City, a son 1 1 of Edwin Lawrence and Ida ALICE ELLISON ADAMS A. E. Adams May Johnston Muiphy. He married Louise Long on Sept. 4, 1954 in Ely, Nev. He had been a maintenance foreman at Hill Air Force Base for 27 years. Fools you are REV. SYLWESTER presently living in Brighton. Co., was ordained into the ministry of the Lutheran Church Missouri Synod in 1947. After serving congregations in Nebraska and Washington, he was commissioned as an officer in the U.S. Air Force in 1953. He retired from active service in HE WAS reared in Salt Lake City and had lived in Ore. for two and years. He returned to Salt and Lake City from 1950-6had since resided in Kaysville. He attended schools in Salt Lake City. He attended Utah State University and Perry Institute in Yakina, Wash. He w as a veteran of World War II, serving in the Armed forces in the South Pacific. David E. MATHEW SCOTT PACKER A joint funeral service was held Jan. 27 in the Kaysville 4th Ward Chapel for the two Packer children w ho died from injuries in an automobile accident. MATTHEW SCOTT Pack- er, 13, and his sister, Melissa Packer, age 9, children of Michael Scott and Marilyn Johansen Packer, 474 Park Dr., Moab, Ut., died Jan. 24, 1982. Both were injured while in the Moab area, Michael Scott Packer, the father, merly lived in Kaysville. Adams; prelude and postlude by Mary Barber; remarks by Bishop Knowlton; invocation by Stanley S. Adams; speaker. Bishop Lee H. Johnson. MELISSA PACKER for- Matthew was born Dec. 25, Falls, Ida. He was an eighth grade student and a member of the school band and school council. He was a Deacon in the Moab First Ward and active in scout-inHe was the Deacon Quorum president. 1968 in Twin MELISSA PACKER was born Oct. 14, 1972 in Kanab, Ut. She had lived in Kanab for three years and in Moab for six years. She was a fourth grade student and studied piano. She was active in the Moab First Ward and was a valiant member of the Primary , and worked in the Relief Society nursery. Both children are survived by their parents of Moab, M. Packer Natan W. Packer and Jonathan M. Packer, all of Moab: grandparents are Mr. and Mrs. William Packer, Kaysville, and Mr. and Mrs. Mark Johnan-sen- , Caldwell, Ida.; greatgrandfather, Virgil 0. Packer, Sunset. Ver-No- t. Adams was born Alice Jan. 22, 1889 and died Jan. 24, 1982. Interment was in the Kaysville City Cemetery with Wendell E. Adams dedicating the grave. PALLBEARERS were Eric V ' ' J m G. Anderson, Heyburn, Ida.; Joseph D. Anderson. Clearfield; Mrs. Norman (Faye E.) Hawks,-Huntsville- MINNIE HESS WOOD Minnie Wood ; and Mrs. George (Mary L.) Dufur, Middleton, Ida.: 33 grandchildren and 75 a HE MARRIED Mary Alice Hill Sept. 12, 1917 in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. Mrs. Anderson died Oct. 9, 1975. Mr. Anderson had taught school for 49 years in the schools of northern Davis County. He was principal of the Syracuse Elementary School for 20 years and was also a farmer. I! O' I I C s ACTIVE in athletics while at Syracuse Elementary and at Davis High School, he was a member of the U. of U. football team and president of the U. of U. graduating class of 1915. He served two LDS mission; one in the Northern States Mission and the other in West Virginia. He served in the presidency of the Seventies Quorum and was a High Priest. He had been president of the MIA. Other accoplishments included director of the Weber-Davi- s Canal District and chairman of the ration board of Davis County during World War II. He served in boy scout organizations for 50 years, was a scout master and organized brother, Owen B. Anderson of Pleasant Grove, Ut. Funeral services were held Friday morning in the Syracuse 7th Ward Chapel with Bishop Paul G. Cook officiating. The family prayer was given by Wayne G. Anderson; prelude and postlude music by Ruth Thorne; invocation by Norman Hawkes; a life sketch by Darlene Kuck; a musical selection I Am A Child Of God by his grandchildren. SPEAKERS WERE Owen B. Oneita Smith paid a tribute to Mrs. Wood and William A. Wood III gave a musical selection; other remarks were made by True Johnson and the benediction was given by Steven L. No one was injured in either mishap. THE CARGO plane was landing at the northern Utah air base about 9:30 p.m. last Tuesday. The plane was loaded with cargo from Fair-fiel- d AFB in Washington. A base spokesperson said the plane landed shortly after a snowfall and that the base runways were closed for a short time until visibility improved. CAPT. WILLIAM J. Lake, 33, of Layton, was the pilot of the locally based which developed a malfunction while on a training mission, forcing the pilot to eject before the plane slammed into the desert gunnery range. A spokesman for the 388th Tactical Fighter Wing at Hill AFB , said the single-sefighter bomber, valued at more than $10 million, is the second 6 from the 388th TFW to crash within the last two weeks and the 10th such incident since the 1 6A became operational at Hill about three years ago.
