They enjoy fresh plants and flowers all year set-up- s long. The Sargents also share their greenhouse plants with many other people. Greenhouse gardening began for the Sargent family several years ago when their son. David was in high school. David became interested in horticulture. He wanted his dad to help him start some flowers and vegetables from seed. THE FAMILY invested in a fluorescent light fixture and a bedding box. Clear boy SINCE ONE of the biggest problems in a greenhouse is insect control especially in the winter months, Mr. Sargent say s it is unw ise to bring plants in from outside to save from freezing. You bring disease and insects in with the plant. Greenhouse gardening is expensive. The rewards, both visable and hidden are great. By Christmas time, the Sargent greenhouse is nearly empty of plants. It is time to begin starting seeds for spring planting. Seeds that are slow germinating are started during the holiday season. Most annual flowers and vegetables are planted in March. THE GREENHOUSE measures 14x24 feet. It is built underground with glass windows beginning to form the walls at ground level.
