Pevey, By SUSAN IPAKTCHIAN hard After many weeks of work, the drama department at Layton High School is ready to present its first major production of the year. Jeame Wright, Lisa Almond, Karen Vance, Audrey White, Pam Budge, Ronnie Barkley, UP THE Down Staircase will be presented on the nights of Nov. 9, 10, 12, 15, 17 and 19 by Ronald L. Petersen. The performances will begin at 7.30 p m. and the ticket prices will be $2 for adults and $1 for students. The play concerns a young, imaginative school teacher who is placed in the middle of a challenging group of students for her first assignment. She finds herself the in bogged down bureacracy of the school system and almost decides to leave for an easier post m a private school system. But she finds that she is capable of reaching and inspiring some difficult students that have good potential. Mr. Petersen describes it as a tender look at a teacher who cares. THE LEADING lady, Miss Sylvia Barrett, will be played by Collette Brundage. Other female leads include Monica Rodgers as Bea Schachter; Ann Neville as Ellen; and Teresa Wimmer as Alice Blake. The male leads will be portrayed by Terry Long as Mr. McHabe; Gene MacDonald as Paul Barringer; Mark Hernandez as Joe Ferone; and Bart Vander Does as Lou Martin. Other members cast Robin Acres, Tanya Dickey, Ken Bailey, Mike King, Chris Sandberg and Kevin Cum- mings. La Retta Wilson will be the student director the Little Theater this year and Mr. Petersen encourages everyone to attend the play.
