Show Layton By DONETA Mrs. Jennie Caroline Anderson Harris, 95, of 1986 North 400 West, Layton, died Wednesday Oct. 3, 1979 at the home of a son in Layton after a lingering illness. She was born Sept. 23, 1884 in Ogden, a Services Held F or Lester Leavitt, 85 Funeral services were held Tuesday, Oct. 9, 1979 at the Lindquist Kaysville Mortuary Chapel at 11 a.m. for Lester Jerome Leavitt, 85, of 143 Crestwood Road, Kaysville, who died Oct. 6, 1979 in a Layton hospital of heart failure. Robert, San Jose, Calif.; and Ronald J. of Tucson, Ariz. ; 13 grandchildren and 24 greatgrandchildren; one brother, John M. Leavitt of Orinda, MR. LEAVITT was born March 19, 1894 in Ogden, a son of John Julian and Anna Madellene World Leavitt. Married Goldie Hammon, Lindquists Kaysville divorced. Married Thurza Barnes in Ogden, she died. Married Josephine Leach in 1951 in Grantsville, Idaho. Mr. Leavitt served in world war I with the U.S. Army. Was manager of Smith Canning Co. of Clearfield and Smith Frozen Foods. Also worked in Lewiston, Idaho then came to Brigham City where he operated the Box Elder Packing Corp.; was a vegetable broker, in real estate business in Kaysville and was building inspector there for many years. Lived in Ogden; Burley, Ida.; Brigham City and Lewiston and moved to Kaysville 26 years ago. 716, Ogden. of Survivors include a widow Kaysville; two sons, derson. Calif. BURIAL WAS in the Kaysville City Cemetery. Funeral was under the direction of Mor- tuary. Funeral services were held Oct. 9 in the Lindquists Kaysville Mortuary for Lester Jerome Leavitt who died on Oct. 6, 1979. Bishop Paul Barker of the Kaysville Third Ward, officiated at the services. FAMILY prayer was given byDonaldMartin; preludeand postlude by Louise Coleman; invocation by Bob Martin. Remarks were given by Bishop Paul Barker; a duet was given by Delene Bowa n and Afton McCormick, How Great Thou Art, accompanied by Glenda Adams. Melvin G. Woods was the speaker. Mike Forbes gave the benediction. DEDICATION HE WAS a member of the LDS Church, Kaysville Third Ward where he was an Elder, member of Elks- - Lodge No. of Andrew and Josephine Judith Nilson An- daughter of the grave was given by Lester Turner. Pallbearers were Lester Turner, Joel Turner, Don Martin, Bob Martin, Jim Martin and Howard Turner. Interment was in the Kaysville Memorial Park Cemetery. ON DEC. 12, 1906 she was married to Daniel Dee Harris in the Salt Lake LDS Temple, He died Aug. 15, 1958. She had lived in Uintah and attended school in Uintah and the Weber Academy in Ogden. She was an active member of the LDS Church and had served in the auxiliary organizations in various positions. SURVIVING ARE four sons and four daughters, Spencer A. Harris, serving an LDS misr sion in the Massachusetts Boston Mission; D. Earl Harris, Alan L. Harris, both of Layton; L. Dale Harris, Salt Lake City; Mrs. M.B. (Lillian) Blamires, Pocatello, Ida.; Mrs. Rex (Thelma) Weaver, Fairbanks, Alaska; Mrs. Keith (Lucille) Trane, Orem; Mrs. Miles (Helen) 57 Dillman, Provo; grandchildren; 40 greatgrandchildren. Also surviving is one brother, Leslie Anderson of Uintah; two Milton Anderson, Uintah; Wando Anderson of Island Park, Ida.; two Mrs. Steven (Mary) Hock and half-sister- Mrs. John (Martha) Alberts, both of Ogden. FUNERAL services were held on Oct. 8 in the 15th LDS Ward Chapel with Bishop Lyle R. Elmore officiating. The family prayer was given by D. Earl Harris; prelude and postlude music played by Janice Steed; a musical One Sweetly selection, Solemn Thought was given by Harris Adams; invocation by Thelma Weaver. Remarks wer given by Bishop Lyle R. Elmore and a life sketch was given by Laverne Harris. A Missionaries family buried in the Kaysville-Layto- n Memorial Park. Her grandsons were the pallbearers. Dedication of the grave was by L. Dale Harris. Funeral arrangements made were through Lindquist and Sons Mortuary. C. Mrs. Ora Campbell and Timothy BMX DAVID WAS bom June 22, 1965 in Ogden the seventh child of nine children. He grew up enjoying sports activities and the great outdoors. HE IS a member of the Layton 16th Ward, and a member of Troop 346. He was very active in the Cub Scout program where he earned his Arrow of Light Award and served as den chief. He has served as asst patrol leader, patrol leader and senior patrol leader under Scoutmaster Dennis Jensen. He has received his On My Honor award and has attended many scout camps, with three years at Camp Lowell where he achieved his one mile swim. DAVID HAS served as Deacons Quorum president and is now an active member of the Teachers Quorum. David enjoyed playing on the 1978 mini 120 lbs. championship team and was also a member of the Layton JCs BB gun team, placing third in the state in 1976. He attends Central Davis Jr. High School and is in the ninth grade. He plays on the football team as Award. learn things, he studies hard, activities. new He likes to which is evident by his being on the high honor roll his first year at Central Davis Jr. High. Through self motivation he has earned 27 merit badges. He isnt afraid of hard work and has earned all of the money he has needed for scout camps and trips mostly through jobs he has found through his own efforts. HE FIRST entered scouting as a Cub Scout in Pack 346 in 1974. He progressed through the cubing ranks to earn the Arrow of Light Award. This is the highest award obtained in the Cub Scout program. He in the has progressed minimum allowable time, of just two years, to become an Eagle Scout candidate. He has served in many positions while in Troop 346. This past summer he received the On My Honor Award which is the LDS Churchs award to worthy scouts. an offensive and defensive lineman. Kerry Robert Bennett, 15 year old son of J. Robert and fovce D. Bennett, 879 Flm HE WAS bom July 14, 1964 in the Dee Hospital in Ogden. He has been active in scouting since 1972, at which time he joined Cub Scout Pack 346, sponsored by the Layton LDS 16th Ward. During 1972-7he earned the ranks of Bobcat, Wolf and Bear. He also won two first place and one second place awards in the Pine Wood Derby races; first place in the sail boat regatta; and first place in the Genius Kit competition, all of which were sponsored by his Cub Scout pack. During this time, he served as Denner. In 1974 he Bicycle Racer - Mike Poulson, LAYTON ta North Layton Jr. High ninth grader, doesnt think that bicycles have to cost a lot of money to be fun. But if you, like Mike, race in BMX competition, it's a different story. Then you may have to pay upwards of $500 for a machine that sounds like a tire commercial, guaranteed "To get you through mud, sleet, dirt and snow. MIKE, SON of Mr. and Mrs. Virgil Poulson, has been racing bicycle motocross (BMX) for about a year and a half, and has about 50 trophies to his credit. BMX is a very popular sport among the nations youth. It originated in Southern California in the early 70s and is going strong. advanced into the Webelos and earned the Arrow of Light Award. Kerry began Boy Scouting in 1975 with Troop 346. He has served in many capacities and is presently serving as assistant senior patrol leader. IN ADDITION to scouting, he has been active in the Layton 16th Ward Aaronic Priesthood where he served in many capacities. He has received his On My Honor Award. He is a member of the 16th Wards basketball and softball teams. He is presently enrolled in the ninth grade at Central Davis Jr. High School. Kerry has worked hard along the Eagle Trail and has earned all twelve skill awards, 33 merit badges and the mile swim award and has camped out 46 nights. As a result of his perseverance and the encouragement of his parents, scout leaders and others, the Eagle Scout Award was bestowed upon him Oct. 4, 1979. MIKES BMX bike is the Sting made by Schwinn. He was one of the first Utah boys to own this model which retails for about $300. However, Mike has added alloyed wheel with red spokes, as well as a crank, and Hare pedals. His sponsors for the racing activities are Hare BMX Products and Binghams Schwinn in Roy. A basic race course for BMX can be compared to a motorcyle race course, with a starting hill, a few berms (sharp, high curves), jumps and a straightaway that is about an eighth of a mile long. The first challenger to complete the course wins. Mikes trophies include first and second place wins. CONGRATULATIONS to Mike and his endeavors. Another favorite pasttime is football. Mike is a quarterback for the North Layton Longhorns. Barnett entertained at a family birthday dinner on Sunday, Sept. 30 in honor of their son Ronalds 25th birthday an- granddaughter DARRIN WAS born April 25, 1966 in Bountiful. He has two brothers and three sisters and they have lived in the Layton 16th Ward since Darrin was five years old. Darrin is a boy who loves life and likes being active. He enjoys camping and hiking and has enjoyed his scouting t Mr. and Mrs. Nordell Pe- 5 terson and their two children have returned home after in Idaho; g spending two weeks Mr. Peterson traveled to Idaho on business. His wife! and children accompanied J him and took the opportunity to visit Mrs. Petersons parents in Malad. Mrs. Emily Ashby has received word from Orem that her granddaughter Miss Kaye Lun Ashby has accepted a mission call to the Taiwan LDS Mission. Her farewell will be held on Sunday, Oct. 21 in Orem. Kaye Lyn is the daughter of Reid and Lois Ashby, formerly of Kaysville. Mr. and Mrs. Joe F. Preece attended the play, The Belle of Amherst at the Little Theater Weber State College Friday evening. Sill was the MRS. HARRIS was M. Miss Suzanne returned home Tuesday evening Oct. 2 from a two week trip to Germany. They went to visit with Dr. and Mrs. Coleman Scheuller and children. Mrs. Scheuller is also a granddaughter of Mrs. Campbell and the sister of Suzanne. While in Germany they traveled all through the country and enjoyed the Swiss Alps and the Switzerland LDS Temple as well as time spent in Holland and Belgium. Mr. and Mrs. Vernell Swanger received word from Seattle, Wash, of the death of their grandson, Robert Corey Lenhart, 24, killed in an automobile accident. They went to Washington to attend the funeral services on Saturday, Sept. 29. Mr. Swanger has re- turned home and Mrs. Swanger will remain for a stay. He was the son of Mrs. Lorraine Swanger Lenhart Baroga. Lorraine was for- merly of Kaysville. Mr. and Mrs. Brent Carver and friends spent a week on an elk hunting trip. Mr. and Mrs. Richard Swasey will accompany his parents Mr. and Mrs. Sherman Swasey of Altamont, Utah on a trip to the east where they will attend the wedding and reception of a nephew Clyde Fonsburg at Ottawa, Canada on Oct. 24. The Kaysville Third LDS Ward held a ward auction on Friday evening as a fund raising project to raise funds for their new church. It was sponsored by the Elders Quorum under the direction of Steven Hadfield. Mrs. Carrie Butcher underwent major surgery last week at the Davis North Medical Center in Layton. Mr. and Mrs. Robert B. Major and her parents Mr. and Mrs. E. Van Sanders traveled to Provo Wednesday evening to see the volleyball game. Mr. and Mrs. Majors daughter Debra Major who is attending Ricks College at Rexburg was a member of the girls junior varsity volleyball team who played at BYU. The team will also play at Snow College, Ephraim, also at the colleges at both St. George and Cedar City before returning to Idaho. Mrs. Leone Gardner will give her mission report on Sunday, Oct. 14 in the Kaysville Eighth LDS Ward at 1:30 p.m. Mrs. Gardner just returned from serving an 1.8 month mission to the Arizona mission. Her two daughters Mrs. Bonnie Kirkpatrick of Kaysville and Mrs. Marianne Thoroson of Layton drove to Arizona to meet their mother and return home together. They visited the national parks in southern Utah en route home. Mr. and Mrs. Linn Sandall attended the funeral service of Mrs. Martha Dalton in Ogden on Tuesday. Mr. and Mrs. Grant Bond, Mrs. Bert Giles, and Mrs. Maries Gillespie were guests in Granger on Saturday of their brother, Mr. and Mrs. James T. Giles 25th wedding anniversary. Mr. and Mrs. Raymond Hadfield, Mr. and Mrs. Eugene Price attended the funeral service in Brigham City on Wednesday for Mrs. Lizzie Weaver, formerly of Preston, Ida. After the services they visited with Mr. and Mrs. Royal Swenson and with Mr. and Mrs. James Valentine. Miss Julie Franks, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Dal Ion Franks received her mission call to serve an 18 month LDS mission to the Peru-Arequi- mission. Miss Franks will enter the Mission Training Center in Provo on Dec. 6. She is a member of the Kaysville 17th LDS Ward. and her father William J. Wright have been vacationing in Seattle, Wash, where they visited with their daughter, Mr. and Mrs. Kris Wallace and two children. Mr. and Mrs. Wallace and children accompanied them on to Vancouver, British Columbia for sightseeing. Elder David Scharp, son of Mr. and Mrs. Melvin Scharp of 703 E. Center Street, has accepted a call to serve an LDS to mission the Michigan-Dearbomission. He will enter the Mission Training Center in Provo on Nov. 29. Mrs. Gaddies funeral services were held in Salt Lake City with burial in the Kaysville City Cemetery. Family members out of state attending the services were James M. Rees of Springville, Va. and Gerald S. Rees of Puyallup, Wash. Mrs. Sarah Giles and Hazel Orgill were guests in North Ogden of Mr. and Mrs. Dale Orgill and family on Friday where they visited with Mr. and Mrs. Orgills son Paul and family who had just returned from a five year stay in Spain. Elder Neal Smith will arrive home Friday, Oct. 12 from the Oklahoma-Tuls- a afternoon at the Uintas. Larry Barnett U.f A baby Identified - SOUTH WEBER The body of a young man found r floating in the Canal last month has been identified as that of a Weber Basin Job Corpsman from Wichita, Kansas. Davis-Webe- DAVIS COUNTY Sheriff Detective Bud Cox said the victim was Clifford T. Reinecke, aged 16, who apparently fell while walking across a flume of the canal early last month. The mishap occurred just north of the Job Corps Center in South Weber. DETECTIVE Cox said two witnesses apparently saw the youth in the canal. He said one witness reported that he was too afraid to report the incident and the other said he thought the victim was swimming. The body was found by a farmer near 1500 West 5.500 South, Roy, about 10 days after the mishap. . ; daughter, Hayley Lyn was bom to Mr. and Mrs. J. Michael Stone of Layton.
