' Mat Kili The seventh annual Davis Cup is set for Oot. 17 at 7:30 p.m. at U of l1 Hiee Stadium. School bands have been selectively invited to attend. Each band is judged on how well they can perform their music while marching, standing in place, the different maneuvers, originality, showmanship and precision. Davis hand began rehearsals for the competition the second week of August. DAVIS HIGH READIES FOR ANNUAL DAVIS CUP By KRIS MARYON The seventh annual Davis at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 17, at the University of Utah Rice Stadium. North Layton Junior Melloaires Choral Group Selects Officers THIS YEARS musical selections will include Minstrel Boy, Jaroomba, March, Chopbuster Malaga and a percussion cadence. Other similar competitions involving the band this year are the BYU Band Day held Oct. 9 and the U. of U. Band Day, Oct. 29. They will also be holding a Christmas concert in December, their annual benefit in March and a spring concert early next May. North Layton Jr. High has selected officers for their Melloaires Choral group. They are Rayma Geroche, president; Sandy School director, says this should be the best year ever for this popular group who will have several concerts and visits to piano accompanist. Home economics classes at North Layton will study 40 new modules. The modules were developed by the State of Utah about three years ago. There will be several guest speakers on of senior consumer issues. A reception will be held on Friday Oct. 12. Ercey Belle Dennins, president of the group, has issued the call for the convention. There will be special entertainment presented at various times during the convention. By SHERRI GREENE Davis High has always been one of my favorite schools, even though I graduated from Clearfield, confided Dixie Jones, DHS new secretary. MRS. JONES started work at DHS, Aug. 13, the first day Leesa wants me to transfer her to this school, so she can pop into the office and visit me after school, Dixie said laughingly. ONCE UPON a Mattress will be this years musical showing on Nov. 29, Dec. 1 and 3. This broadway spoof will feature Vanessa Clontz as Princess Winnifred, Wayne Ferrin as Prince Dauntless, and Paulene Winters and Mike Christensen as the queen and king, supported by a cast of fine young actors, actresses and a 30 member chorus. Midsummer Night's Dream will also be presented in November. The play is a Shakespearean comedy full of fun and laughs. Four of the main characters are played by Stephanie Stur geon, Kelli Christensen, Jett Nielson and John Martin 1 HESE PLAYS are being directed by Miss Sjohlom with music accompaniment by Miss Fairbanks and Richard Marsden. np |
