Show WEEKLY REFLEX DAVIS NEWS JOURNAL, MARCH 1, 1979 Bountiful Braves End Season Play Enter Playoff Picture By DAVE WIGHAM Fake Mailgram Changes Chuck Ehins Future from Layton. TALKED to Chuck about a month ago and at that time he indicated a desire to play for Alabama, since he grew up in the state before moving to Layton. He had decided to go to Alabama and called them on the phone and told them of his decision. Coach Bear Bryant then called and congratulated him on his choice. 1 SINCE THEN everyone is pointing accusing fingers at just about anyone who knew Chuck Ehin. Was it another school, or a joke by some idiot? Are there coaches in this fair country that would pull off this trick for whatever the reason? True the publicity in this case has been big, but then recruiting of young innocent high school players is big business. How many other little tricks like this have been pulled off without the culprit being found and dealt with? First this way it lets the students stay in school with the majority of games in the evening. Secondly with the two weekend format each team gets a rest, before clubs were complaining of the grueling schedule especially in the lower bracket. Another reason might have been the fact that with two weekends the more adults can go which means more money for the association.
