OFTEN YOU will see Jimbo during his free time sitting before a mirror. Carefully he applies the grease paints, fits the ridiculous wig, dons the multi-colore- d bazarre costume and puts cn the finishing touches that make him a loveable, laughable clown. It would be a torture for the average person to spend some 90 minutes to make the transformation from Average Citizen to clown. NOT FOR Jimbo. Mr. that of a Clowning gives me an idiot license and provides a most enjoyable diversion y from the routine, said Mr. Chastain. The time it takes for me to become that other person passes quickly. day-to-da- THE YOUNGER generation agrees with Jimbo the Clown. Like a man pulling out pictures of his wife and kids from his wallet at a moment's notice, Mr. Chastain just happens to have several letters. His letters are often written out in a childish scrawl and contain a liberal sprinkling of misspelled words. BUT ITS all there. The youngsters thank Jimbo for brightening their day, want to know what it takes to be a clown, and say that Jimbo is the greatest. Any joy I may be able to give is returned tenfold when a child hugs my leg or gives me a smile, said Mr. Chastain. THE (a saxophone with straw flowers in the bell) is Jimbos trademark. Another sign that Jimbo the Clown is in town is his Houfeldingus Dogs. These are made from balloons and have their heads on backwards. HOUFELDINGUS dogs Jimbo uses these balloon dogs in traffic safety lessons for youngsters which is included in many of his per- formances. THE WONDROUS sparkle in the eyes of the kids and their laughing faces hooked Jim on clowning. A clown should never use another clowns makeup or custume, Jim noted. In fact, clowns faces are often registered with the England Museum and are zealously protected, he explained.
