The growth of annual grass (June grass) has been heavy this spring. WITH THE advent of hot summer weather this grass and many weeds have ripened and are very dry. Thus, producing highly flammable fuel that is easily ignited by sparks, fireworks Of any flame. Adding to this fire danger is the summer influx of people who travel into the canyons and foothill areas for recreation purposes. Children with matches, playing debris burners, smokers, campfires and fireworks are prime causes of fires in our area. Picnickers, campers, hikers and bike riders are cautioned to be especially alert to avoid an accidental fire. These fires in the fuel available, spread quickly and destroy large areas of our mountain side vegetation.' Because our mountains are a multiple use resource we need to portect them. Valuable watersheds are damaged by a fire. THE ENTIRE Wasatch front will be closed to open fires of any kind effective July 2nd. This pertains to all Federal, State and County Land. We remind you that fireworks are illegal in Utah this includes all national forests. With the Bicentennial Celebrations upon us there will be much activity.
