Show Page Two - The Pyramid - October 20, 1999 mm rn UJ Merrill Ogden Sanpete Theater Over the weekend, the Theater Community pete San- (SCT) put on a melodrama in Moroni. The production was "The Shame of Tombstone." It twas presented in the old Opera House. Proceeds were to benefit the continuing restoration of the historic building. I hope many of you were able to attend. I usually try to support SCT events when I I missed this time becan. cause I already had a ticket to the final performance of "The Complete Works of Shakespeardown in e-Abridged" Cedar City, (Hilarious show, catch it somewhere if you can.) After moving to Sanpete 15 years ago, one of the first people I met was out putting up posters advertising the community theater production of "Papa Married a Mormon." I was invited to the show and to "lend a hand." I didnt help on that show, but it didnt take long before I was involved with a part in "Clouds of Glory" directed by Ron Hall. He had directed me in the 70s as a chorus member in "Brigadoon" in community theater in Richfield. (Ron has a long history of doing good things. I hope that his present difficulties can be mended and that hell have more help than hindrance from us.) Ive been associated with other shows over the years both with Sanpete Community Theater and Manti Arts Council. It's fun. Ive made new friends and have good memories. I suspect theres more fun to come and more memories to be made. Snow College does a great job in its theater department. "Barefoot in the Park" was well done as the rst offering f Fairview needs sidewalks Neil Simons this season. romantic comedies seem to "have legs." (probably my favorite romantic comedy movie is "The Goodbye Girl," also a Neil Simon creation.) The high schools and college take care of many of our younger sets needs for the stage. They sometimes need some community help to pull off certain shows they do. Dear Editor: am writing because I am concerned about the lack of Some sidewalks in Fairview. people get around town by walking. They have to walk in the street making them a higher risk of getting hit by cars. This concerns me and is why I think we need more sidewalks. I However, Community Theater fills a niche for the rest of Sanpetes population. It provides opportunities for us to entertain each other, and to enrich the cultural aspects of Kevin Milne Fainiew Sanpete. The great thing is that anyone can be involved regardless of experience. Its an "on the job" training program. Sanpete Community Theater and the Manti Arts Council have many times taken newcomers and complete turned them into actors, stagehands, technical and lighting staff, dinner theater servers, etc. These organizations are constantly in need of "new blood." (No Halloween vampire pun intended.) Think about getting involved. Several benefits from being active in community theater come to my mind immediately: 1) Develops sociality and friendships 2) Provides entertainment to Sanpete 3) Fosters community unity 4) Builds confidence and technical knowledge 5) It's dxxmnooA Cuz 'N Jewels Will clean out old buildings, storage ( Housecleaning sheds, etc. 4629392. My concern is for the safety of the kids who play year after year on the baseball fields at the park. I speak mainly for myself, but the community, especially the youth would like to see new playing fields. It is my hope that this community will come out to support any fund raisers that the city will promote. I hope, that we, as a community, will one day have a beautiful playing field like the Lions Park in Ephraim, a park that we all can be proud of. One of my dreams is to one day play baseball at Wrigley Field for the New York Mets. I appreciate all of the time that my coaches and parents have given in training and support.
