Show Four Rs to perform at cultural event FAIRV1EW The C ommissioeers smt tax relief 4Rs, Ronald, Richard and Roger, Rowland, will perform for the Mt. Pleasant Utah North LDS Stake Cultural Arts event at 7:00 p.m., Friday, Oct. 22, at the Fairview First LDS Ward, 122 South State. The 4Rs, who have been performing together for 40 years, have entertained throughout the western states as well as in several different countries. They recently returned from Egypt and Israel, where they performed at the Bngham Young University Center. All four have served in various positions in the LDS Church, including bishoprics and stake presidencies, as well as serving e missions in Nauvoo and Armenia. They will perform uplifting, and humorous inspirational, musical selections. All are welcome to attend. full-tim- MANT- I- Sanpete County Commissioners approved a subdivision, hiring of personnel in the sheriffs department and heard department issues in an Oct. 5 meeting. Subdivision County commissioners granted preliminary approval for a four-lot Dan Rasmussen has recently undertaken a new business called B & D Fancy Smoked Salmon that is located east of Mt. Pleasant. Rasmussen has turned his hobby of smoking salmon into a business that currently processes about 5,000 pounds of fish per month. His business partner is Jason Buck, former Brigham Young University and Cincinnati Bengal football player. Rone Dangerfield Rone Dangerfield, was arrested around March 10, in a Drug Task Force incident involving both Mt. Pleasant and Wales. He was charged with possession of paraphernalia and marijuana. On Oct. 13, Judge Mclff sentenced him to one year in Sanpete County Jail with six months suspended, a $2,500 fine, non suspended and two years probation on charges of attempted illegal possession of a controlled substance. This case will be reviewed in two months. Chesley L. Christensen Chesley L. Christensen, age 34, was arrested around March 10, in a Drug Task Force incident involving both Mt. Pleasant and Wales. He was charged with possession of methamphetamine, paraphernalia and marijuana. R. COPY 911 Bradley informed the commission that the county can collect a surcharge of about $.53 from wireless phone users. Bradley explained that the commission would need to draft a resolution letter and send it to US West and other phone companies with a 30-dnotification. Bradley said he found out about the surcharge when a cellular phone company contacted him to ask if the county collected the Barry Citizen task force tracks drug sentencing GUNNISON-- In an effort to curtail drug dealers and drug users in Sanpete County, the Sanpete County Citizen Drug Task Force has followed several drug cases from arrest to sentencing. It is hoped that continual publication of court outcomes will educate the public and put pressure on officers gathering evidence, prosecutors and judges involved in these cases. subdivision, located approximately 1.4 miles east of Mt. He is to actually serve one year in Sanpete County Jail with the option to participate in the Project Reality Program after 45 days in jail, plus conditions and two years probation. Austin Underall, Jr. Austin P. Underall, Jr., was arrested around Mrjrh 10, in a Drug Task Force incident involving both Mt. Pleasant and Wales. He was charged with possession of methamphetamine, marijuana, and paraphernalia. On Oct. 6, Judge Mower sentenced him to zero to five years in Utah State Prison on the possession charge and zero to five years on the theft charge, to run concurrent. He was also fined $18,-50- 0 combined for both counts and a restitution fine of $75. He is to actually sene 90 days in Sanpete County Jail and 36 months probation. He is also to obtain a GED and pay $500 of fine within two years. If completed, the remaining fine will be suspended. Jenny Riggs Jenny Anne Riggs, Kearns, was arrested in Gunnison by Gunnison City Police on June 12, for possession of methamphetamine with intent to distribute, possession of marijuana and drug paraphernalia and three warrants. On Oct. 13, Judge Mclff accepted a guilty plea to illegal possession, use of a controlled substance with all other counts dismissed. She was sentenced to serve 180 days in jail, but may be released to the House of Hope Program or another program, fined $500 with none suspended and two years probation. Douglas Sterzen Douglas Sterzen, age 37, was recently sentenced on charges related to Mayfield drug arrests in the summer of 1998. He plead guilty to distribution of a controlled substance. Judge Mower sentenced him to zero to five years in Utah State Prison, suspended, fined $9,250, and 18 months probation. He is actually to serve 30 days in Sanpete County Jail, obtain a GED and pay restitution of $100 to the Sanpete County Sheriffs Office. If GED is obtained and probation terms are successfully completed all fines will be May-fiel- d, Recorder report After some discussion, permission was granted to Reed Hatch, recorder, on behalf of courthouse employees, to close the courthouse on the Friday after in exchange for Thanksgiving staying open on Columbus Day for this year. Another motion was passed to grant Hatch permission to send three to four employees for GIS training at a cost of $300 per person. Auditor report A motion was passed to grant Ilene Roth, auditor, to purchase a $1,072 Hewlett Packard printer for the department that will do a stack of envelopes instead of one at a time. Roth also informed the commission that the budget did not need to be passed unul Dec. 31, but Commissioner Robert Bessey stated that he w anted to adopt the budget by Dec. 20. Tax relief ay charge. Randy and Shauna Carter were granted a tax relief because farmland they own had been removed from the Greenbelt without then' knowledge. When the error was discovered, they had it reinstated, so commissioners dropped the k charge. Another resident was given tax relief to a primary residence that had been valued from $98,-00- 0 to $80,000. roll-bac- Miscellaneous A motion was passed to purchase a $2,000 fuel tank, which Doug Barton, owner of KMTI, has installed that will operate the countys emergency equipment back-u- system for up to 10 days. In other business, a motion was passed to approve health and accident insurance coverage for the year 2000 and to accept a signed lease for the Food Bank, and set aside $1,000 for the indigent burial of Shirley Simpson. New floor tile was discussed for the foyer and hallway of the older pan of the county building. Kyle Hams, KM A architect, will make up sample patterns for final approval. A motion was passed to approve the Manti First LDS Ward to use the fairgrounds on Oct. 13 and for Billie Macintosh to use the stock building between for the month of November to dry sage brush. p Bradley also reported working on getting a better 911 emergency computer screen for addresses. He said the new system will contain both the county address and old rural addressing system in a comment field that emergency dispatchers will be able to access. When asked about the Y2K readiness, Bradley stated that he felt confident about the county's systems, except for the sheriffs dispatch system, which has had problems in the past with soft- ware. He added that even if the system fails,, he felt that the sheriffs department would be able to work around it. Sheriffs report Sheriff Claude Pickett submitted names of Brett McCall, depue ty, Molly Lamb, as dispatcher, Linda Carrie Ballard e and Amy Wathen Finai, in the sheriffs dedispatchers, partment. After an executive session to discuss a case that was dropped against McCall, the commission tabled hiring McCall but passed a motion to hire Lamb, Ballard ard Finai. : r full-tim- part-tim- North Sanpete School District Superintendent Dennis Mower recently signed an agreement with Nicholas Robertson, president of Great Western Heritage Foundation, for the purchase of school district property which indudes the old high school gymnasium and white building. Also present at the signing were Allan Hall and Darin Johansen, school district officials.
