Show Spring City discusses $65,000 flood funding SPRING CIT- Y- The city council discussed funding for the flood, zoning applications and the audit review on Sept. 3 meeting. Councilman Neil Sorensen attended a meeting in Salt Lake with CDBG about funding for the flood which committed to $65,-00Councilman Chad Larsen stated that the flood clean up looks good and commended Mayor Allred and council member Sorensen for their efforts. 0. Zoning applications Allred David Councilman addressed the zoning applications. Vince Brewers application was approved and David Allred and the council signed. Nad Puzey will need a zoning application. The water service is there but he will need a new power hook up. There was discussion on the Historic Preservation Committee. Councilman Allred recommended that the council formally appoint a new committee, and that the main street ordinance be looked at and revised. Audit review Councilman Greg Ogden went over the balance sheet; cash, water project, government expenditures and operating expenses. There were a couple areas that went over their budget but as a whole the budget looked good and was underspent. There were no questions from the City Council and the city council expressed there appreciation. 4 --II post fair results MANT- I- Winners were recently announced for the Sanpete projects during the County fair. 4-- H Written test In the senior division, Shane Christensen took first place, Doug Brown, second: and Randy Beck placed third. In the intermediate division, Brian Christensen and Kristi Despain tied for first place and Cole Revior placed second. In the junior division, Heidi a Strate took first place, and Freeman and Amy Christensen tied for second. Jacob Olsen and Kade Despain tied for first in the pee wee division and John Olsen placed second. Rate of gain In the hogs exhibition, Tommy Peterson took first place at 2.15 lbs per day, Cali Christensen placed second at 2.06 lbs per day: and Ben Bartholomew took third at 1.97 lbs per day. In the lambs exhibition. Ken-do- n Sorenson placed first at .85 lbs per day, Jared Brewer took second at .76 lbs per day; and Jaden Sorenson took third at .75 lbs per day. In the steers exhibition, Clayton Christensen took first place at 2.33 lbs per day, and Jake Childs took second and third at 2.02 lbs, and 2.00 lbs per day. Hog show In the senior hog showmanship, Shane Christensen placed first, Orrin Anderson second; and Randy Beck third. In the intermediate division, Zach Coates took first place, Jessica Tripp placed second; and Kristin Anderson placed third. In the junior division, Markell Coates took first place, Amy Christensen took second; and Jacob Anderson took third. In the pee wee division Laura Christensen took first place and Riley Tripp placed second. Lamb show In the lamb showmanship for seniors, Brian Watson placed Cor-een- y first, Doug Brown took second; and Jessica Brown third. In the intermediate division, Craig Brown took first place, Jessica Tripp placed second; and Zach Coates placed third. In the junior division, Eric Watson took first place, Heidi Strate placed second; and Jacob Cochran placed third. In the pee wee division, John Olsen took first place. Steer show In the steer showmanship for seniors, Shay la Childs took first place, Cliff Sorenson placed second; and Edwin Christensen placed third. In the junior division, Jake Childs took first place, Clayton Christensen took second; and Christian Olsen placed third. Camping in City Park Councilperson Cynthia Allred proposed guidelines for use of the city park for overnight camping and the council accepted. Overnight camping is allowed as long as these conditions are met: People must stay in campers or trailers which are parked along the side of the road, no tents will be allowed. Overnight campers will not have access to bathroom facilities or power hook ups, and no lodging or access to the city building will be allowed. Mayor update Mayor Robert Allred discussed the issue of Wayd Whites probation period which is soon over. The Mayor and council com- - mended Wayd for the job he is doing and Mayor Allred suggested that Wayd have a wage in- crease for no lower than $10.50 per hour. The council approved the increase for $10.50 and will follow steps set up in the employee manual. Mary Donaldson received an estimate to upgrade the Citys computer system. Mayor Allred would like to check into this befdre they commit to anything. Sterling Codifiers talked to the city about making an ordinance book. They would take all the city ordinances and compile them into the ordinance book. The council approved and Mayor Allred will be in contacting with them on September 17, to discuss this matter. Anderson Lumber hosts grand opening MANT- I- Anderson Lumber, formerly known as Alvey Lumber, will host their Grand Opening beginning Thursday, Friday and Saturday, Sept. 24, 25 and 26, from 8 a m. to 6 p.m. Jeff Morrison, manager, is a native of Richfield and his wife, Laurie, is from Gunnison. They have three children and are presently living in Ephraim. Morrison worked in the Provo East Bay store for eight years as a yard foreman prior to his moving to the area to become manager of Amdersons new facility. Jeff says that when he is not working, he likes to spend time with his family, hunt, fish and play golf. He stated that the store has had good response from the community. Most people saying they are able to buy merchandise that has not usually been available in this area. During the celebration, hot dogs, free pop, hunting caps, along with a drawing for a mountain bike and other prizes will be featured. Staff members include Everett Mullins, Marc Lambert, Justin Squire, Ron Peterson, Clint Montague, Laura Dahl, Spencer Stephens, Melinda Hales and Teresa Justice. Council update Councilperson Cynthia ' Allred is trying to organize a Youth City Council and requested information on this matter. She would like to get the youth together to discuss this. Cynthia suggests all youth interested in running for the council fill out an application, and then get a committee to interview them and find positions for all kids who apply. She also talked to the city attorney on the letters sent to property owners about cleaning their property. The attorney said to identify these property owners, send them another letter and give them 30 days to get the property cleaned up. When sending the cost of clean up to the county make sure it is an itemized bill. Grants to child abuse team Jensen Councilperson Kay addressed the child abuse prevention team who is sponsoring seminars on life skills and parental values. Their main them is Building Assets, Building Family Value. They have received two grants for gang prevention and to double the number of life skills seminars. This is a matching grant so they need to raise $3,500 and are asking for help from the surrounding communities. Spring City will donate $300. Mrs. Jensen noted that this group would like to talk to as many different groups and places as possible. They would also like to talk to the Spring City Youth Council when it has been set up. Police report Officer Hagberg submitted his monthly report. He reported on a gas and fire situation at the Rafter Check, and has also been checking on a drug dealing report. Chip and seal bid Councilman Marlin Christensen sent out the bid request for chip and seal receiving no response. He called several possible applicants and received two bids. Christensen Brothers gave the lowest bid of $850 for the straight ways and $200 for the four radiuses. A contract will be written up for them to sign so they can start right away. Blackham for commissioner Bruce Blackham, candidate for County Commissioner, stated that understands and appreciates those who serve. He was mayor of Gunnison for eight years and served on many other boards. The issues he supports are the Narrows Project above Fairview and making sure growth in the county grows in the right direction. Most important is the drug and alcohol problems facing the youth. He believes that unless this issue is taken care of other issues will not matter. Miscellaneous Parnell Councilman Gary received information on the Eccles Grant which requested that Spring City apply to other places also. This has been done. Councilman Dick Olson aditem which dressed the Wal-Mawas rescheduled. Summer activities director and subdivision ordinance items were tabled for a later date. rt Fashion In the intermediate fashion revue, Tamra Watson took first place, Sabrina Herring placed second; and Jaylynn Olsen, Christy Freeman, Jessica Brewer, Christy Nielson, and Camille Boekweg all received blue ribbons. In the junior division, Elsie Herring placed first, Andrea Peel took second: and Sarah Peel, Emma Lee Boekweg, Mary Boekweg and Maria Peel received blue ribbons. Softball standings 1.
