Montoya earned a gold medal in his division singles event, Cassie won a silver in her singles category and both Kelly and Robertson earned bronze in singles play. Cassie and Robertson teamed up to take the gold in their doubles competition, while Kelly and Montoya won gold in doubles. Not finished yet, the four rolled together in the team competition, taking the gold medals in that event as well. The honors add to an already successful year, where the four won a state title in the B division scratch competition of the YABA in April. It is the third year in a row the foursome has won a state title. They bowl out of Helpers Gateway Lanes with coaches, Linda Anderson, Joe Juliano, Ed Howa, along with Frank and Linda Merrilli. ". Patrons supported school restoration plan at meeting Dear Editor: A recent letter to the editor suggested that the city council went against wishes of Spring City residents passing the resolution for $60,000 to help in the old schools restoration. Over 200 individuals came out to a special old school town meeting this past February. Less than five people present opposed the project. Of those completing the survey given at the meeting, over 70 percent were in favor of using tax dollars to raise the $60,000 needed to show city support. This amount is a pittance, but its needed in order to show the essential local support required to raise funds from outside sources. Do you think foundations are going to give their money if we say no? The Eccles Foundation required Fairview to get a $400,-00- 0 loan on their museum before they gave matching funds. The letter critical of the resolution also focused on sports as the best use of surplus city funds. A proposed tennis court, for example, is not being subject to a citysheet. How many wide sign-u- p play tennis in Spring City? In the annual meeting for residents to make their wishes known Spring City public meeting Continued from page 1 books per year, but about 200 books are lost to theft annually. Mayor Allred suggested a petition to be circulated, and a resident asked for the library issue to be placed on the agenda. Other issues discussed were future landscaping plans around the bowery with replacement trees and sprinkler system; proposed new fire station moved next to city hall; and placement of tennis courts with possibility of closing 200 east adjoining city property. Water line pressure, extensions for future growth and sewer lagoon problems will be discussed in a meeting with Sunrise engineering, Thursday, Aug. 17. for worthwhile city projects (held Aug. 10), none suggested a tennis court, ballpark lights or playground equipment. Last year, 30 people came to the meeting and maybe five desired a tennis court. The clear majority at the accurate and informative public meetings have spoken in favor of the old school. Few have come in opposition. How can our democratic city council rule against a present majority? It is wrong to say this is a "Doug Howard operation". He is only one of the 20 trustees of the Old School Foundation who all have just one vote each. None of these trustees make any money. Their motive is to benefit Spring City residents and make possible a use of the old school that would protect it from the real possibility of being tom down if nothing is done. The old school is owned by Spring City. The Old School Foundation already has a program in place for education and entertainment that benefits the whole town. Right now there is energy and know-hoat work in raising the rest of the $1.5 million (the architects estimate) needed to restore the school and bring quality programs to Spring City. Jared K. Bench, son of Kenneth and Kayla Bench, received his Eagle Scout Award on July 29. He is a member of Fairview Second Wards Scout Troop 502. His project was placing a flag pole in Fairviews lower cemetery. His grandparents are Lowell and Jeanne Anderson, Ada Bench, all of Fairview, and the late Kirby Bench. w There has been a lot of misinformation concerning this matter. Some have assumed households will now be assessed for this $60,000 amount. Actually, this would be available surplus money in the general fund. This $60,000 also has strings attached. It cannot be spent without each expenditure being approved by the city. Those opposing restoration of the old school using surplus city funds can still reconsider. We would be happy to answer any questions. I was a relatively new resident in town and being less well known than the other candidates, I was not overly surprised to lose. However, I consoled myself with the notion of running again in the next municipal election. Now that it is time to file again, I am no longer sure that I really want to. To begin with, I find myself loaded down with other responsibilities leaving me little time or energy to devote to civic matters. But more important is the question, "Who would I run against?
