Show April 5, 1995 - The Pyramid - Page Three Kevin Madsen to represent Utah at Nationals 4-H- ers FAIRVIEW Kevin Madsen, son of Bryant and Pricilla Madsen, has been selected through a very rigorous application and interview process, to Utahs 79,000 represent and 7,000 leaders at the 65th Conference, March Volunteer 4-National 4-30 through April H H 8, 1995 in Washington, D.C. Kevin will meet with over 400 top and leaders from all over the United States, Puerto Rico, Guam, Virgin Islands, and Canada. The 1995 National 4-- H Conference theme, "Voices with Vision, " deals with the extension wide initiative, report on "Youth: The American Agenda" The initiative reflects the national concern for youth, as well as identifying a role for the Cooperative Extension Service System. Each youth and leader at the conference will be involved in an action activating committee with which they have been preparing for the past three months. Each action activating committee is charged with three assignments: (1) Accumulate the best information possible about the current situation relative to the topic and what is being done in Extension. (2)Determine some realistic goals and about the future of the 4-- Lufe AM IF Vickie Mitchell, Tim Lucas to exchange vows H youth development education programs. (3)Develop recommendations on what can be accomplished at county, state, and national levels to reach these goals. Young people can use their abilities to perform effectively as youth of today and competent adults tomorrow. Working together with adults they gain the experience and acquire the knowledge, understanding, and wisdom necessary to be effective participants in determining programs as well as implementing and evaluating them. She is the granddaughter of the late Gordon and Katie Mitchell, Orem and Ethat Peirce of CaliforSan-pitc- nia. Regional singles plan events The bridegroom attended North Sanpete High School and is currently working as a brick mason for Doyle Hatfield Masonry. He is the grandson of Jack and Melba Smith, and Anton and Holly Dowhaniuk, all of Springville. They will make their home in Hideaway Valley. All convocations are free and open to the public. Numkena, a member of the Hopi Tribe, gained his expertise in this area through his childhood in Tuba City, AZ. He grew up in the traditional Hopi lifeways, with a foundation in tribal philosophies and culture, including Education of Indian Children, Symbolism in Indian Art, and Indian History and Culture. Numkena s professional career includes his present position with the Division of Indian Affairs, and appointment by the Governor of the State of Utah. His former experience includes the positions of Director of Indian Education with Utah State Office of Education and the Federal Programs Administrator with the Hope School District 25. An educator by training, he has served as teacher, administrator and educational consultant. Convocations continue every Thursday through June at 12:30 in the Crane Theatre. The public is welcome.
