Show age r i mr Tin' vraninl - October 11. Social News Noritas Nook Be more than a name on a chart By Norita Lancaster 3 When I try old recipes, look at old photographs or see collectible items (antiques, etc.), even old abandoned homes, I wonder about the ones who owned them. What were they really like? What tales of love, joy, anger or romance could these old items tell about the people of the past? We hear of the famous and the notorious. Parts of their lives are usually recorded somewhere, and continuously talked about (both fact and fiction), so that later generations know what they were like, what motivated them to do the things they did, and even a good idea as to what they looked like. Even though they pass into the realms of history, they still live in the minds of those who know of them, not just a mark on a yellowed piece of paper but a real person. Who are you? Are you just a name on a piece of paper, the only evidence to show that you were born or exist, then by todays standards, thereafter known by several sets of impersonal numbers. Not everyone can become famous, and they dont have to; but everyone can leave their mark in time, by keeping a diary, journal, lots of pictures (with names and dates marked on them,) and wonderful anecdotes of their lives to pass on to future generations. Wouldnt you like to know more about some of your ancestors? What they did for a living, for fun, what their talents were, and what they believed in? Were they stern, comical and fun loving, or an incurable romantic? Future generations will want to know these same things about you. Wouldnt you like to be known as a real living, person with a special personality, looks and thoughts and not just a name on a birth certificate or the line of a pedigree chart. Start today to become the living legend of tomorrow, not by becoming famous, but by being yourself, write and tell others about yourself, not boastfully, but honestly, so that your life will not eventually pass into obscurity, and you known only as a name on a piece of paper. Today, I want to introduce you to a newcomer in our midst, she is Vickie Rider of Mt. Pleasant. Vickie and her husband, Richard, have recently moved to our area from Springville, but are originally from southern Illinois. They are living in the Jerry Hansen home. Vickie confides that she enjoys going over the mountain with her husband, or wherever his job takes him. She loves to swim, fish, bowl and go snowmobiling, and she enjoys working in the yard.
