Show DAVIS REFLEX JOURNAL, NOVEMBER 28, 1984 Solar System Displayed As you may have noticed lately along the hall by the library at Kaysville Jr. High there is a project displayed by Mr. Vans Earth Science class. THIS project consists of a model of our solar system. The white tape represents the extent of our solar system. The scale used is one cen- timeter equals 2,500,000 NDJH Teen Cited meters are not to the same scale. From the sun to Pluto the distance is 5,900,000,000 kilometers By LYNDA HILL Pleshette Goniotakas is the new Junior Teen of the Month" at North Davis Junior High. She was elected by the Roy Elks Club and nominated by the North Davis Junior High student government. She was judged on her academics (3,600,000,000). Larry Wilson, an educator with Davis School District has received a national award for outstanding contributions to education, presented by the Close Up Foundation and R.J. Reynolds Industries, Inc. WILSON served as an administrator for Utah students and teachers who recently participated in the Close Up government studies program. The award was presented in Washington, D.C. Close Up, the nations largest government studies program, brings students and teachers to Washington for an intense week-lon- g look into the workings of the federal government. More than. 140,000 students and teachers from across the country have participated in the program since its inception in 1971. TO ENSURE that all types of students are able to participate in the program, Close Up awards fellowships to teachers and low to moderate income students. These fellowships are made possible in part through a Congressional appropriation administered by Close Up and matching grants from corporate, business and philanthropic organizations. R.J. Reynolds Industries, Inc. is the largest corporate sponsor of the Foundation.
