It means you have to deal with those Darts from Davis. 29-2- 8. FOR THE past four years the Darts have ruled the region and with the number one ranked team in the state up in Kaysville this season Davis once again is the team to beat. Region Four, as it is right now, has never known another football champion than the Darts and in last weeks 42-- 0 shellacking of East the Darts sent out the message to the rest of the league that despite having a new coach directing their fortunes they have no intention of giving up their crown. LIKE THE fastest gun in the old west young teams come looking for the powerful Darts and in each case the Davis wishbone has come out on top. Already four clubs have taken their best shot at the Darts and already four more clubs have gone down to defeat. Up next comes the Wildcats of Woods Cross in what will definitely be the toughest test for the Darts thus far this year. Many experts warned that the Cats preseason record was misleading and the Cats proved that point last week with win over previously un their -2 29-2- 8 beaten Viewmont. . PLAIN AND simple folks this Wildcat bunch has all the ingredients of a great football team. Ideally a coach would like some size, talent and speed. Davis has it and so do the Cats. Its no treat to play the Darts anywhere but it almost becomes a nightmare to have to go to Kaysville and take them on, even the old timers cant remember the last time a visitor won on the Darts turf. WE HAVE all the respect in the world for Davis and their tradition admitted Wildcat coach Larry Eldracher, but our goal is the region title. We won't be favored in this battle but were not about to throw the towel in on any team. Translated that means the Cats realize the Darts have a great football team but that theyre still going up to Kaysville to give winning their best shot. ELDRACHER, like most coaches, is still looking for his first win against Davis, my first two years we played them pretty tight but last year they romped over pretty good. The bottom line though is that we haven't beaten them in my three years so far. One thing the likeable coach has going this year though is that this is probably his best team hes had at the school. In Jeff Hawkins he has one of the premiere running backs in the state, in Ron Gomez he has the best kick return man around, hes averaging 22 yards per return and in Brad Worthen he has a quarterback who can throw the football. I HONESTLY feel we can run and throw the ball pretty well on offense and because of that balance we can score points. The key to this game is on defense, our goal rs to hold them under 40 points he joked. Since the Darts have been rolling up big points it might not be that unreal a goal. The word on the Darts is that they are bigger than usual just as fast as they ever were and that theV throw the ball more undet Jim Dickson Senior Casey Llovd leads the offense at quarterback while David Kinard and Chris Cat d appear to be the big guns on the ground. Up front the Darts have some beef. WOODS CROSS faces an uphill battle and they know it. but as their coach notes, "we might not be the team to beat in this region but teams better not overlook us either. ITS true this years WELL, team may be a little bigger than team's fielded here in the past, but Jim Dickson set the record straight Pound for pound by saying, across the front, were still smaller than everybody. "You look, at the 230 and 240 kids Clearfield has or East has: Yes, were bigger than we've been, but were still smaller than evcry: one else." DAVIS BIGGEST kids to date are Roger Clawson and Steve Pearson who might tip the scales at 215 or 220. Davis may not have the smallest guards in America anymore but they rank at least in the Top Five; Even though Eric Thompsorij Vaughn Casdorph and Scott Ward are small in structure, Dickson says they're huge in heart.
