Some of these letters interpret actions of the North Sanpete Education Association in ways that, to us, do not square with reality. We hope the following comments will help citizens of the North Sanpete School District understand the situation better: 1. The North Sanpete Education Association has not assistance, requested financially or otherwise from the National Education Association. 2. The only assistance that has been given to North Sanpete Education Association by the Utah Education Association has been requested by us. Neither the UEA nor the NEA has any desire to control the 70 members in North Sanpete and if they did, we would not put up with it for ten seconds. 3. North Sanpete Education Association does not want to control our districts schools. The Board of Education has that right, and educators respect it. Along with that right, however, lies the responsibility for the Board of Education to work for the best possible education that can be provided for our children. During recent months North Sanpete educators have questioned whether actions of three Board members have been consistent with the aforementioned responsibility. We believe we have the right to raise such questions and we intend to proceed with vigor. In doing so, we will take the high road. Officers of the North Sanpete Education Association will continue to place their signatures on public statements and letters to the editor. We will not resort to name calling. We will try to avoid making unreasonable or hostile statements about those with whom we differ. NSEA has said it before, and we repeat: All members of the North Sanpete Board of Education are respectable men. All of them are undoubtedly earnest in their efforts to serve the people of our valley. Educators know them and value them as friends, neighbors and relatives. And what about us the Educators? We hope we can merit the respect of all persons in our valley, even if we may disagree on some matters. We trust that North Sanpete residents will see us for what we are: Working people with bills, worries, hopes, mortgages, growing families, dreams, frustrations, victories and setbacks. In short, we are like most other people. One last word : We educators will continue to do our level best for all youngsters in the North Sanpete area. Respectfully, Pres. Merwyn Kjar Pres.
