"Rinse received a second place award for schoois with 2,500 or more students. Granitian received a first place award for schools of 1,500-2,500 students. Tigerama received a fourth place in the same category. Boomerang received a first place award for schools of 900-1,500 students. Ratings were performed on over 1,000 schools from elementary through university level, including vocational schools. The publications were rated on a scale of 1,000 points. RUST Salem Parties Pick Candidates To Vie in November2 Election By VICKIE PETERSON Six men have been chosen to face each otheras candidates for Salem City government posts this fall. These men include Keith Hanks,incumbent, Gerald Carlisle, and Stan Cole for the Citizens Party, and Harry Davis, incumbent, Paul Hair and William Rust for the Progressive Party. All are running for posts on the City Council. Keith Hanks is a native of Salem. He attended school in Fork and Springville, then attended the Brigham Young University where he received a B.S.in geology. Heis now employed by Geneva Steel as a geologist. Mr. Hanks has served thecity as chief of the Salem Fire Departmentand hasserved four years as City Councilman working with the electrical partment. He has served as Surday School Superintendent, Stake MIA sapenintendent, and is now serving as financial clerk in Salem Second Ward. Gerald Carlisle is a native of Payson. He attended school in Payson and is a graduate of Utah State University. He taught school in Logan and is now teaching in Provo. Mr.Carlisle has been Sunday School superintendent and held several positions in MIA. Heis presently president of the 8th MIA and 10 years in the Elders Quorum of Elders. Quorum Presidency. Mapleton National Guardsman Distinguished Engineer Grad MAPLETON — Sgt. ist Class Erman H.Stone, son of Mr. and Mrs, George Stone of Mapleton, was distinguished graduate of a special engineering course whichhetook in connection with his duties asfull-time memberof the Springville National Guard, 116th Engineers Unit.
