That depends on the big IF . permanent press items, are yun properly. Both laundry equipment and clothing manufacturers have performed extensive tests to discover the best way to launder permanent press items so noiron characteristics are retained ... and their testing was successful. Leslie Paige of the Whirlpoo! Corporation reports these findings: 1) Wash frequently — Because permanent press garments stay fresh looking, its tempting to delay laundering. But avoid this because body oil stains (not always noticeable) may build up, making them difficult to remove. 2) Pre-treat stains — Saturate stained area with concentrated liquid detergent or with a paste made from regular detergent. Oil stains (eopenialy collar ring) oa brightly colored shirts can be particularly embarrassing. To remove them, simply saturate area with drycleaning solvent — then with concentrated detergent and wash regularl; y. 3) Sort properly — as you would for a regular load. Permanentpress naturally develops static electricity which attracts lint. So separate lint givers from lint receivers in both washing a et dryer since garments must tumble freely to avoid formation of wrinkles. Drying smaller loads helps avoid wrinkles, too. 8) Remove clothes from the dryer as soon as possible — to avoid wrinkles. That’s how to launder permanentpress items so you won't haveto even touch them with an iron. One additional caution, though .. . quality of permanent press items may vary from brandto brand. And, of course a poor quality garment will not retain permanent press characteristics no matter how well you wash it. So, when shopping, look for a brand name you know trust. Select garments with flat seams without puckers. Then your permanent press garments will truly be time savers if they are laundered correctly.
