The charge came from John Brog,. president of the Snake River Power Association, as a controversy continued over the signing of a power contract between the Monsanto Co. and Bonneville Power Administration. Monsanto has agreed to buy BPA powerfor its Soda Springs phosphate plant. The transaction however, will require the wheel- and other promises.” “Then on March 15, 1964, it was announced that the Idaho Power Co. had requested of the Federal Power Commission that it not be required to coordinate its facilities with the Northwest Power Pool,” Brog said. He described the Idaho Power Co. action as a “breach of faith...’’ He said that once power demands “‘have grown beyond the supply from our local Idaho dams, the transmission monopoly would have us at its mercy.” Brog said the signing of the Monsanto-BPA contract was “a vate companylines or construction of a new BPA line from the Columbia Basin into southern Idaho. Both the private Comeanies that serve southern Idaho, Idaho Power and Utah Power & Light, havestrongly criticized the contract move, claimingit is an attempt to get an appropriation from Congress for a BPA transmission line. Brog said oneof the conditions upon which Idaho Powerobtained its license to build Brownlee Dam wasthat it would operate the dam in coordination with the Northwest Power Pool. Peepe in assessing the effects two weeks later. “But we will actually wind up with a better, prettier city.” Crescent City was a secondary victim of the monster earthquake that battered much. of Alaska into a shambles. The quake generated tidal waves that fanned out through the Pacific and caused damage along muchof the north American West Coast. The worst of the waves hit this little lumber and fishing town 15 miles from the Oregon line at 1:40 A. M. PST on March 28, the day before Easter. Two-Sided Attack The wave funneled into the shallow, crescent-shaped bay on which Crescent City fronts. Then, further compressing its already awesome power, the wave roared up Elk Creek along the edge of town. Finally, the wave split.
