Show ee aa | eeee Sunday, May 7, 2000 CAREERS F27 Marketing program helps students cultivate leadership skills Marketing is a major function of the business field, with diverse job opportunities available, including retailing, direct sales, advertising, physical distribution and purchasing. Information management, customer service and public relations are important aspects of the field. With such important skills to acquire in today’s business world, Salt Lake Community College’s marketing management program may be the answer to landing a successful career. SLCC’s marketing program, which stressesreal-life and handson strategies, is part of an accredited business program by the Association of Collegiate Business Schools and Programs, which was recently rated as oneofthe top 100 community college programsin the country. As a result, SLCC students, student organization ‘and professors have received more than 75local, state and national awards during the past year. Students . prepare for careers through specialized and personalized instruction ranging from international marketing to business marketing. Several courses use group activities to develop students’ interactive skills and to build human values and ethics. Marketing students can ear a one-year certificate or an associate of applied science degree. After earning their associate’s degree at SLCC, manystudents then opt to transfer to a four-year university. Through an open exchange of ideas and experiences, students cultivate fresh viewpoints and leadership skills while participating in team activities and problemsolving situations. SLCC students also are encouraged to join student clubs and organizations, such as Delta Epsilon Chi, to gain the hands-on experience needed in business careers. bear, allowing for his face and head to be fully automated, as well as his waist, legs, arms and hands to have movementcapabilities.
