Show mm BRIGHAM MAY GET WEATHER BUREAU the following clipping from the herald republican indicates that there is a ot of brigham city being made headquarters for a government weather bureau washed washington agton april 13 the establishment lish ment of two iwo weather bureau stations ons one at t provo and one at brigham city city is proposed in separate bills introduced in congress today by congressman joseph howell of utah at tho the time there is only ono one weather bureau office ot ice in utah which is maintained at salt lake several observation stations have been established by this bureau to bring it into closer contact with the rest of 0 the state stale but these methods have h been i found rather impracticable ave and n d beai the e central bureau has not been able a az e to t 0 furnish the information desired to various parts ot of the state at seasons when ben the information especially as to frosts is of vital interest to the farmers in the establishment of bureaus at provo and brigham city it is believed by congressman howell that the farmers and horticulturists of the thousands of 0 acres ot of laud lying near them will be benefited to the extent of hundreds of thousands ot of dollars the bills provide for the initial expenditure pend iture of by the government tor for the establishment of each of the bureaus it Is pointed out that with central bureaus at these two points more definite nite observations will be possible sibl 3 and the fruit growers and othas will reap the benefit utahna know of the rapidly increasing developments of horticulture in these two districts and the bureaus will do much to advance adrance the industry and protect the caps c aps cps especially in the spring of th year when rapid changes in the weather often prove disastrous to fruit the protecting wing of the government would be felt in the issuance of frost and other bulletins to every district where telephones are used and would enable the fruit growers to protect themselves through the use of smudge pots an dother of comparatively ly recent date similar weather bureau stations have been established under the direction of the department of agriculture in n many of the states and it is believed probable that the two proposed at this session ot of congress will meet with approval every citizen in box elder county and more especially the fruit growers hopes with all their hearts that congressman howell will be successful in his efforts to 0 get the measure passed |
