| Show BATTLE CATTLE WITH BANDITS citizens and robbers engage in deadly duel at Black ft idaho As the result of a battle between robbers and section men just south of blackfoot foot one man la Is dead two others are ald fatally wounded mounded while a posse ts Is la in pursuit of another who will bo be lynched it if captured the dead men are john sweet deputy sherll of pa blackfoot ack foot and an unknown man one ot dt the robbers roL bera bers while W EL fitzgerald section foreman Is fatally wounded at 6 0 clock sunday evening two men melt entered the section house occue ed by Japa japanese neso laborers on the oregon short uno railway just south of town and attempted to hold up the men while they were parleying with the men the daughter of section foreman fitzgerald called for help ana and summoned deputy sheriff sweet who on ar arriving was joined by her father ac ar tho the two men went to the section boulo they were met at the door by one ot of the desperadoes who with a revolver in his hand beckoned sweet to come in sweet stepped up tho the stairs to the door when the fellow raised bis his gun and fired so close was the thel gun to the sheriffs sheriff a face that the powder blackened his forehead the bullet entered the temple just above the eyes inflicting a fatal wound from which bo ba aled led in about an hour hoir without re Lovering consciousness As the body of the sheriff fell into the room the murderer sprang over it and with an oath started after fitzgerald who ran for the section house a short distance away which he reached locking the door after him after firing two chos through the door the desperado a giant in stature brokis the door down and corn cornering erins fitzgerald shot him three times emptying his gun and then beat him into insensibility the two men then jumped through a window and ran to the railroad track they started up the track toward the depot firing occasionally to keep the crowd back meanwhile several of the citizens secured guns and they responded to the fire of the outlaws A regular battle followed over a hundred shots being deputy sheriff kinney then came around tho the corner comer of a car with a sawed off shotgun and emptied a load of buckshot into one of the rob birs throwing up his hands bands the murderer sank slowly forward upon his face the other continued firing as he ran and made good his escape onto the fort hall indian reservation A posse Is in pursuit of the robb bobbir ir who escaped and if captured he will bo be lynched |
