Police Officer Victor V. Versluis responded to a report of a screaming woman in the Avenues district shortly before 3 a m. After hearing voices inside the apartment indicating a rape was in progress, Officer Versluis said he entered the house and found the suspect and the victim, a woman, both unclothed in the victims bedroom. The suspect was holding a container of tear gas in his left hand, he said. The victim told police she had gone to bed about midnight, but had been awakened when the suspect entered her bedroom, sprayed her with the tear gas, and forced her to perform various sexual acts.
