Show Social Security Director Sure of Reallocation WASHINGTON (UPI) The head of the Social Security Administration said Sunday he is confident legislation now moving swiftly through Congress will head off any chance that benefit payments will be disrupted in the next few years. William Driver also said he expects there will be a good deal of speculation on whether auintomatic creases for Social Security benefits should be revised. Such automatic cost adjustments will result in a 14.3 percent raise for 39 million Americans in checks going out tins week. Reallocate Funds The legislation being considered would reallocate money to help the system meet a crunch caused by inflation, which has pushed benefits up, and unemployment, which has cut down on the revenue coming in from payroll taxes. A report from the systems trustees earlier this month warned that the trust fund which makes up the difference between payments and receipts for old age and survivors benefits would run dry and there could be a short fall in 1981 or money problems. But he said he would have to examine the social consequences before advocating such a change. More people currently retire before 65 than after, he noted. Baker was asked about the statement by conser-vativ- e fund-raise- but Reagan cannot survive that if he in fact excludes others from this campaign." Owe Too Much Baker again said flatly that he did not want to be Reagans running mate but, as he has in the past, said he would not turn down Reagan if the former California governor asked him to take the position. "I owe too much to the Republican to turn down such a request, he said.
