Show THE STATE VETERINARIAN. Since arc adjournment of the legislature, legis-lature, new developments have arisen in the matter of the appointment of a slate Veterinarian, not foreseen by the members of the Legislative body. The College Board, jthc past fow years has been establishing a course in Veterinary Science, but the recent ruling of the American Association of Veterinarians, and of the Bureau of Animal Industry of the Department Depart-ment of Agriculture, makes the matter mat-ter of establishing a course in Veterinary Vet-erinary science at the Agricultural College practically impossible. To maintain such a course, as we understand un-derstand it, would require the . services ser-vices of at least three experts devoting devot-ing their entire time to this subject. Such an arrangement is of course impossible in a state so sparsely settled set-tled as is ours. In view of this it has been decided that the only veterinary vet-erinary work to be offered at the College hereafter will be that necessary neces-sary in the agricultural work. Dr. Frederick's time therefore, will be devoted to the instructional work in veterinary science, the Experiment Station work, and the Extension work, these three (assignments re-' quiring all of his time. In view of this condition, the Governor Gov-ernor last week appointed Dr. A. C Young, State Veterinarian. Dr. Young will devote his time to the work throughout the sta.tc, but is in no way connected with the Agricultural Agricul-tural College, and any localities requiring re-quiring the services of a veterinarian will call upon him, instead of the veterinarian at the College. We do not have the pleasure of Dr. Young's acquaintance, but wc understand he is a resident of the state, and a veterinarian vet-erinarian of recognized standing. Wc trust that for the good of the live . tock interests of the stale, he will bring to his office such knowledge aiid skill as will be of groat value h eradicating diseases, and ' establish such sanitary rules and laws tint will go a long ways towards placing Utah in the front ranks in this ma tcr. |
