The crop reporting board of the bureau of statistics of the United States d" mrtment of agriculture estimates, esti-mates, ..jin reports of correspondents correspond-ents and agents of the bureau, the numbers and values of farm animals on farms and ranges in the United States on January 1, 1909, Compared with Janunry.i, 1908, the following changes are indicated: Horses have increased 648,000; mules increased 184,000; milch cows increased in-creased 526,000; other cattle decreased de-creased 694,000; sheep increased 1,-' 1,-' 4S3ooo; swine decreased i,937iOOO. In average value per head, horses increased $2.23; mu'cs increased $0-08; $0-08; milch cows increased $1.69; other calllc increased $0.60; sheep'' decrcas cd $0.45; swine increased $0.50. In total value, horses increased $106,522,000; mules increased $20,143,-000; $20,143,-000; milch cows increased $52,888,-000; $52,888,-000; other cattle increased $17,816,-000; $17,816,-000; sheep decreased $19,104,000; swine increased $15,764,000.
