Show An Expert's Opinion of Milking Machines. Ma-chines. ' In summing up the results of a two years' tost with milking machines in its dairy Prof. A. L. Haockcr of the "Neb. experiment station says that heifers in their first milking period aivo better results by machine milking milk-ing than do cows that have ibecome accustomed to hand milking. Grca enre is needed to keep the parts of the milker clean, a thorough wash-;ng wash-;ng and boiling after each usage be- . ing necessary. The saving in time over hand milking milk-ing is slight, two men with four ma chines being able to do the work Of three men milking by hand or about 21 cows per hour. It cost the station nearly $500 to put in the equipment, including three milkers, but no engine, en-gine, and $88.97 fr repairs and sundries sun-dries for two years. Prof. Hacckcr says: "Wc believe it would be impracticable im-practicable to install them where fewer than 30 cows are milked the year round." |
