the institution to be in excellent t w working order as well as giving their visitors a briet briel insight to tile manifold work done during the past year I 1 ider tanner by request of the board gave a very interesting sketch sketch of his missionary labors and travels in distant lands narrating incidents of his bis experience of peculiar value to the claa of young people present the tha board followed wita remarks suiting the occasion I 1 these exercises were happily interspersed by six hymns and anthems finely rendered by the academy choir under the able leadership of prof H ae E giles department in charge of mrs jennie tauner tanner reported 42 young ladies la that part of oar pro gramme of whom 15 did plain sewing 11 knitting and 10 mac romia and crocheting and 6 were excused from practical work on account of domestic duties at home but all pai participated in the general instructions given by mrs tanner THE MUSIC department the vocal part consisting of the choir and the singing class was conducted by bro H JB giles and the instrumental patt part consisting of instruction st on the organ by miss mis S ottillie kaeser the progress of the pupils in music has been very gratifying and an evide evidence oce pf af their profi proficiency clency will be found in singing THE POLY SOCIETY in charge of brother J B keeler as president reports twelve sessions held bat at each on onu of which a lecture oy by one of the teachers was given with the exception of f one given by bishop john E booth two parties were held under the auspices of the society the amount of 39 80 in the treasury of the society is to be applied to the purchase of ampara us for illustrating scientific lectures the numerous performances both vocal and instrumental under the direction of prof giles constituted a distinguished feature of our poly soph teal entertainment it was gratifying to notice the increased interest which the public is taking in the sessions of the society py there having baring always been a standing invitation extended to all lovers of intelligence and refine refinement ment SPECIAL STUDIES in chemistry bookkeeping ping and drawing have shown resu results its
