Show I BEN LOMOND BEACON, July 1 2. 1979, Pag 6 This is not just any ordinary . . . Beads of perspiration roll down many bodies like tiny legless spiders as the heat of summer penetrates relentlessly almost every hiding place. anticipate Its, this we winter? all Perhaps the anticipation is more for the summer and the to work in the garden, prune the trees, mow and water the lawn. Also clean the windows, scrub the house, prune the trees, put up fruit, harvest from the garden go to ball games and somewhere that we're to spice up out activities with family reunions, church fun ctions, hikes to gather wood for winter, haul hay, swimming and is phew, dad gum it-- fall on the way and only half of the intended projects ever get completed. One project in Plain City freedom a culmination point is the Fourth of July Activities. Anyone who went to the square this year just had to realize the time and effort that was put into the preparation and planning of this community affair. Shauna and Allen Hadley, this years chairpersons, must be breathing a little easier along with all P.C. residents who assisted with the various activities and that always reaches booths. MORE CHERRY DAYS RESULTS so my theory proved true as the three wards participating couples tied balloons onto their back sides and upon being handed rolled Cherry Days newspapers, proceeded to swat each others balloons and backsides. Such a commotion, amid and shouts, laughter screams came the distinct explosion one hears when a balloon has been put under too much pressure. The group with the most unpopped balloons and the end of the event were the winners. The three legged relay race ended up being a 20 legged mess as each time the tied up competitors crossed the finish line, one more individual was tied by the ankle onto the rest of their tied up team. Those who were there and witnessed this strange activity dont have .to imagine Jiow silly it looked. Some wives just gave up and hung onto their husbands. Amid water pouring and an obstacle course came the final event a tug of war. The competition was close now with Plain City Second Ward in first place, Plain City First Ward in second place and in third place was Plain City Third Ward. When it was all over, Plain City First Ward had come from behind to win the team title. The winning First ward individuals were: Kami and Randy Marriott, Leslie and Blair Hadley, Bob and Lynda Taylor, LaFrae and Ron Kelly and Jeff and Marveda Youve heard the term anything goes? Well, down on the square anything went with five couples representing each of the three ward boundaries. Ive determined (since growing older) that grownups are just kids in bigger bodies and East. art exhibit This years North Ogden Cherry Days celebration has come and gone but for all who participated, it will be remembered as a most enjoyable event. By Carol Shaw As a growing city, North Ogden has had a tremendous increase in the demand for services in the last few years. Therefore the number of employees has had to grow to meet the demand. The city now hires 26 full time employees, 7 part time employees, several "professional consultants and some extra Summer help. This includes 2 building inspectors, members, 8 members of the maintenance oridnance concerning wages the city employees will be paid. This new Compensation Plan Ordinance covers everyone who works for the city full time. It outlines 10 steps for each job, with 15 grade levels. Mayor McColley explained that the salaries listed in the new ordinance included a 7 percent increase for the city employees. He said a few minor adjustments also had to be made to bring all of the with a $600 travel allowance. The mayor received $1680 with a $900 travel allowance each year. Mayor McColley jokes that he was afraid to figure out what he earned per hour. You are probably going in the hole, put in a councilman. GRASSHOPPERS KEEP alignment grasshoppers. Mayor McColley said he thought it would be helpful for the city employees to know what they could expect in the way of future earnings. Councilman Don Colvin pointed out the fact that the McGriff Park and other areas where there is cover across-the-boar- for them. The city crews have cut the weeds and sprayed the Cloradane to kill them. "Unfortunatl Unfortunately, it doesn't last long, explained the City Dennis Administrator, Shupe. We spray and it kills them, but a week later more of the little devils hatch out. He said the city would continue to spray their property until the situation is controlled. But we cant make the grasshoppers honor a fence, he said. Private property owners compensation paid the councilmen and the mayor did not constitute a raise. They did not even get the 7 percent increase. Our pay has been in effect for some time, he laughed.
