' t La Leche Groups to Discuss Parents Can Boost Learning Breast Feeding Advantages j Are you a parent who has difficulty convincing your children about the benefits of a good education? Do your children think you're nagging when you urge them to study? Do you feel guilty and fatigued by a seemg battle for ingly your children's good? Take heart. There are several steps parents can take to motivate their children to learn, both in school and at home: Let your children see that you are still a learner by reading, going to the library, watching educational TV programs, writing letters, attending school functions. Discuss ideas and share opinions at home. Read to younger children; play educational games together. Show your children that you care about what they are learning. Ask about school activities at the dinner table and discuss them in a relaxed way. Dont criticize or demand improvement at these times just show your interest. Whatever you say or do regarding your childrens ability will affect their performance. Help them believe they can learn by showing faith in their ability to learn. Be sure that your children have adequate nutrition and rest, as well as love. If they feel rested and healthy, they will have the physical and emotional energy for schoolwork. If they feel loved and free from emotional upset, they will be able to concentrate on their studies. Encourage your children to develop study habits. Set aside a special time and place each day for homework.
