Show THE EXCURSION I 1 SEASON WF WE are in receipt of a communication from a correspondent who offers a number of suggestions relo relative tive to remedies for the evils evila that are con necked with excursions bathing andi kindred forms of recreation the writer deplores the danger to te which our youth are exposed through evil associations of such amusements and one remedy which he be suggests te is the beautifying of liberty park the warm springs and fc rounda audi aadi other public property owned by the city in such a max ner as to make them attractive places of resort and asks it if a special tax could not be raised for this purpose it if the cites present revenue is not nat sufficient the argument of our correspondent that the community ought to be willing to make some new for the preservation of its youth musti must be conceded as also must be his him proposition ro that the expense of vie visiting in pleasure grounds close at hand would woul be less than that which attends a MB to one of the lake resorts but it is difficult to understand int in what manner such im improvements movements rove ments ott city property would woul operate iu ini effecting a cure or even a of the moral evils of which our correspondent speaks pleasure resorts created by the city would have to be open to all classes of citizens alike hence we should have at liberty park the warm springs aprin s aud and all places offe kind established under under the auspices of the city government the same mixing of the hairs with the butter which to is seen at the present bathing aud and pleas ure resorts doubtless also the improvement pro of those parks would lead to the establishment of drinking places adjacent even it if not allowed on the grounds the way to avoid the evils of bad company is to keep out of it parents gard gardland gar diane lans and the agencies of sunday schools and of the church can by the use ol of tact and good edg ment do a great deal to prevent evil bill influences imin gaining a foot foothold bolt among or an ascendancy over the th youth |
