Show ONE JAIL THAT IS 18 THE PENALTY OF THE D AND R G THIEVES the trial of J H gibbons and W F allen alien the D B R G W brakemen who were indicted lor for stealing cloth from one ot of the com companas comp any anys aa cars was finished in the third district bourt court today to day the defendants themselves went on the witness stand aud sworn that they had bad obtained the cloth irom from a fellow feblow brakeman F S hammond Hammo Bd who is under indictment for grand larceny r but who in company with cha charles ries garber and with smith railroad men is a fugitive from justice gibbons and allen alien said they did not know the cloth was stolen stole D they explained their conduct in running away as soon as they learned the theft was discovered by saying that they thought they could not convince the mormons cormons Mor mons of their innocence As an the jury were all noni cormons mormons Mor mons I 1 and they refused to believe the defendants by brin bringing gilig in a verdict of guilty this little trick did id not avail this afternoon the defendants were called for sentence and as it was the first time they bad baa been convicted of any offense eff ense their puni punishment aliment was wail placed at the minimum fixed by lawone year in the penitentiary |
