Show lamentable ACCIDENT THE SON OP OF H C WALLACE DIES OF POISON boison at eleven a in m today to day coroner taylor was called upon to hold bold the third inquest within the past twenty y tour four hours being notified this morning that a little boy nad been poisoned at the continental hotel in this city he caused a jury to be summoned summoned at the hour named anda ande proceeded to investigate the case alter after the jury had bad been duty duly em paneled and the witnesses sworn dr A C standart was placed upon the stand he testified that about 6 0 m he was called in to see a child about four ye years ars old which h he e fo found a ad I 1 in n t the h e arms of a gentleman on t the h e veranda A ol of the hotel at the time the childs body was contorted by a spasm which bent it backward like a bow he inquired of mrs wallace the mother of the child as to the cause who informed him that it was caused by the I 1 childs taking pills ills containing strychnine which it lad had found in a small vial vici the doctor immediately administered an antidote consisting of alkaloid of belladonna and also a solution of sulphate of zinc in hot water and sent for vr dr nail hall to bring such remedies as were necessary at once dr lorin hall came immediately and gave the child hypodermically a reparation preparation of morphine in order to induce vomiting these drugs f failing ailing they were about to try an blom w of chloral when on listening lor for P pulsation they found tha that the little hea heart r t had bad ceased to beat and all was over dr lorin hall corroborated the foregoing and added that the pills in question were taken as a tonic that they were commonly administered by practising practicing physicians and were entirely barm harmless less when taken in legitimate doses as deneh pellet contained tile the one hundredth part of a grain of strychnine the child evidently died froelan from an overdose of these pills chieff it had bad found and had been eating presumably for an hour before t the h e f fatal a tal re result S a I 1 t mr H C wallace the father of the child who came in today to day on OB healing of his said bereavement said the childs name was joseph wallace that he would have been four years of age had be lived until the of july next and added that this was the third child they had lost by death in the past few months montha the mother was almost distracted with grief and was too ill to appear at the investigation the substance of the verdict was that he died from the effects of strychnine poison innocently sell self ad ministered 11 |
