More than 2,000 people are expected at the event, which will be presented June 4 at Brigham Young University in Provo. registration will be from 7:30 to 10 a.m. in the Wilkinson Center, with the opening program at 9 a.m. in the Wilkinson Center ballroom. KSL Radio personality Bob Lee will deliver the keynote address. Lees interest in home education began with intern views of pioneers like John Holt. People who have heard Bob Lee on the radio know how informed he is on educational issues and how engaging he is, said UHEA President Karl Pearson. Were excited to have him keynote this years convention. In addition to delivering the keynote address, Lee will present a workshop on home schooling and the media. Workshops will run from 10:15 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. The convention coincides with Home Education Week May 29 through June 4. Gov. Michael Leavitt, in a declaration signed May 18, says home education week will provide information about a viable choice in education for parents seeking alternatives to conventional forms of schooling. Convention organizers agree, calling the convention a valuable educational resource for all parents with school-ag- e children. There will be a lot of classes with information on how to make learning fun and enjoyable at home, said Shauna Peatross, convention chairwoman. Whether parents have children in public school or in home school, there will be something for everyone interested in educating children. Price post to sponsor teen Matt Brady has been selected by the members of Price American Legion Post 3 to attend Boys State this sum- mer. The event will be held at Weber State University. Matt is an honor student at Carbon High. In addition to participating in many school programs, he has won various awards while on the debate team, and is a member of the Price City Youth Council. Matt will have the opportunity to learn about the functions of city, county and state government while attending Boys State. He is the son of Frank and Lynnette Brady of Price. He has achieved membership in the National Honor Society, has participated as a Peer Helper since seventh grade at Helper Junior High, is an Eagle Scout and an assistant Scout Master in Helper. In 1972, his father attended Boys State, also sponsored by the American Legion. Brandon is the son of William and Nelda Callor of Helper. Stewart earns $ 1 ,000 award Country Jam USA and City Market recently announced the recipients of the first MarkCountry J am USA-Cit- y et Leaders Scholarships. The Country Jame USA-Cit- y Market Leaders Scholarship is based not only on academic achievement, but on school and community involvement, honesty, compassion and leadership. Applications were sent to 75 high schools serviced by City Market stores. Each school was asked to nominate one outstanding student for the award. A five member committee made up of a representative from Country Jam USA, one from City Market, a local educator and two high school seniors reviewed the application and at a meeting May 14, chose the final 10 recipients.
