Show 4A Sun Advocate, Price, Utah Thursday, May 26. 1994 & Outdoors Sports Carbon High athletes honored at ceremony By SCOTT NIENDORF Sports editor The Carbon High School athletic family got together for an evening of reminiscing the past season and sharing awards for outstanding achievements Monday night at the Carbon High School Auditorium. Coaches and administrators shared insight into some of the athletes and the obstacles they faced and successes they achieved this season. Football coach Jeff tough. Burrows, Gitlin, Dunn and Buchmiller were named to the all Region 11 football squad while Jeremy Jewkes was honorable given 3A mention status. Buchmiller and Burrows were named to the 3A first team. Mike Moss gave several awards to volleyball team members who ended up in a three-wa- y tie for second place in Region 11 but did not advance to state in a playoff. All-arou- nd r" Buchmiller and Jewkes were both named from Carbon High School to the team. Don Gressmen handed out the girls basketball awards to the team which took sixth all-sta- te place at state this year. Rachelle Jewkes, Olsen, and Tosh Jaramillo were all named to the Region 11 squad. Jewkes was named to the Deseret News 2nd team and the Salt Lake Tribunes 1st team. Gressmen named Olsen the Defensive Player of the Year and Jaramillo the Offensive Player of the Year. Memorial Day Monday, May 30, 1994 V Jerod Timothy was named the Rookie of the Year for Carbon, losing his only match of the year in the 3A semifinals. The Most Take Downs was given to Brock Fausett while the Most Pins was given to Jimmy Ruden. The Most Improved Player was given to Scott Railsback. Fausett was named to the Academic team and tabbed the Dinos MVP. Timothy and David Pulsipher were Region 11 champions while Fausett and Ben Car-do- n were both Region 11 and 3A state champions Ruden going undefeated. Coach Stewart Foster gave all-sta- te Memorial Service and Dedication begins at 11:00 a.m. at the Price City Peace Garden te J out the swimming awards to the boys and girls teams. Ryan Horsley was the 3A state diving champion, the first diver ever for Carbon High School. Ilorsely was named the outstanding boys diver, who won region and state titles and Leann Johnson was tabbed the best girls diver after winning Region 11 honors and placing third at state. The Outstanding boys swimmer was Todd Klarich while sister Tamara Klarich was honored as the girls Outstanding Swimmer. Becky Hurst and Jennifer Larsen were named to the team. Academic The girls track team took 2nd in Region 11 and 5th at state this year. Principal Boyd Bell presented the awards. Kelly Prettyman was named the Outstanding Jumper and Denise Jewkes was named the teams MVP. Allison Bailey was named to the Academic squad. The Outstanding Runner was Darrin Keller and the all-sta- te Outstandin Thrower was The Outstanding jumper was Tyler Atwood while Keller was named the teams MVP. Billy Mitchell was given the Bill Coltim Award. Pinedo, in handing out the baseball awards to the team which finished fifth at state, second in Region 11, noted John Reva was named to the Academic team. Reva was also given the Mr. Offense award while Toy Atwood was given the Mr. Heart award. Greg Nelson was given the Mr. Defense award and Lott was given the Mr. Hustle award for the Dinos. An outstanding pitching year netted Travis Cloward the team MVP award. The softball team stormed its way to fifth place at state and second in Region 11 this Steve Cochrane. all-sta- te year and Gressmen was the teams MVP. Jaramillo and Rachel olsen were named Region 11 first team while Carlson and Ali Gressmen were named to the second team. Dustin Mills and Billy Rich were named the rodeo teams while Amy boys Codi Powell and Greenhalgh were named the girls Ps pleased to hand out awards to several outstanding players. The Offensive player of the year went to Sheleah McCourt and the Defensive Player of the Year went to Stacy Lupo. The Rookie of the Year went to Ali Gressmen and Dino pitcher Courtney olsen was named Tea Goodrich and Tiffany Peterson were honored for awards went to Rachel Olsen for the girls and Raby for the boys. Buchmiller was presented the Tony Welch Scholarship by Carbon principal Boyd Bell and Jaramillo was given the Utah Old Timer Athletes Award of $2,000.
