In the last year, employment opportunities for graphic artists have increased significantly. Because of the skills demanded by the job market, CEU developed the new cirriculum as a vocational program. The computer has revolutionized the way commercial art is produced," Haddock said. There are plenty of com- puter operators out there doing art work for their employers, but have no formal art training. Our program includes instruction in traditional art courses as well as computer skills. That will give our graduates an advantage in this growing segment of the economy. The first year of the CEU program introduces students to design concepts, basic com- puterized illustration and desktop publishing. It provides the necessary skills to work in a variety of positions, such as a corporate information office or an advertising agencys layout department. associate With the two-yeof applied science degree, students learn advanced computerized illustration, page layout and commercial production techniques. A graduate will be prepared to work for a commercial printing operation, design firm or as a graphic artist. CEU anticipates that students from across Utah will be interested in the program.
