So, ; we will take a few minutes to let you know what is legal and what is not. The windshield itself can only be ; ; tinted on the top four inches. We are seeing more and more vehicles with tint on the bottom of the windshield. This is illegal and you can be cited. The rear window can be tinted, but J must have not less than 28 light transmittance. That means that you i cannot totally black out the rear win- dow like some people believe. The tint on the driver and passenger ; I side windows can only be a light tint J Then we will check your seat belts, licenses, etc. Also, if your windows have anything on them which presents a metallic or mirrored appearance, its illegal. . and you must not add any tinting or shading to the window that reduces t the light transmittance less then 43. The windows behind the driver and passenger can be a little darker, but ,, they too must have no less than 28 light transmittance. , Anyone that has questions about window tint can call our office at 896-- 2780 or they can go to any safety inspection station. Each station has a light meter and can test to see if your tint is legal. In most cases, people get their car inspected and then put the tint on as dark as they want. That just gives us as troopers a reason to stop you. ; , To Whom it May Concern Wayne H. Herlitz Wayne H.
