Audrey Boore received word of the arrival of her 8th grandson on February 27, 1997. Eric Mack McBride is the son of Nancy Sue and Tadd McBride; and brother of Zachary of Riverton, Utah. Aunt Sandra Heath, Brett, Steven, Mitchell, Brooke and Suzanne and Jim Sanders were in tetl Elder Brian L. Jensen Chris Cherry has been called to serve a mission for the LDS Church in the Lima Peru North Mission. He and his family will be speaking in Sacrament Meeting in the Gunnison 3rd Ward on March 9, 1997 at 9:30 a.m. Chris will enter the MTC in Provo on March 19, 1997. Chris is the son of Danny and Mary Hill and Hal Cherry. Brian L. Jensen has been called to serve in the Iowa Des Moines Mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He will speak on SunMarch 9, in the Redmond First day, Ward at 10:45 a.m. He graduated from North Sevier High School in 1994 as an honor student. He also graduated from Snow College Cum Laude with honors in 1996. His parents are Bert and Sandra Jensen of Redmond. Grandparents are Merrill Gurr of Salina and Lester Los Angeles, California this past weekend to attend the Tiger Woods Open Golf Tournament. They also went to see the musical Showboat and visited with Suzannes cousin MariLee Staker. Benjamin Boore was an honorable mention winner in the John Deere Create a Card Contest. He drew and colored a Christmas card with a farm theme and received $10 of John Deere toys for his effort. Congratulations to the Axtell Ward boys in winning their basketball game on Thursday. This past two weeks, the fourth and fifth Gunnison Elementary grades have presented programs. In the fifth grade, Randy Newman was the prince and Derrick Steiger was the pauper in the production ofThe Prince and the Pauper. NS Seniors have successful social by Nyals Attdreasoii ' At 6 p.m. on February 17, about 75 senior citizens from the North Sevier area met at the Salina Senior Center for a delicious dinner and delightful evening of entertainment. Cec Sittre prepared a special dinner of chicken breasts covered with crab sauce and cheese, baked potato, fruit salad, fresh peas, rolls and dessert. After the sumptuous meal, Jack and Rae Jensen presented the program for the evening. The seniors enjoyed the melodic, beautiful voice of Ray Smith. Between numbers he spiced up the program with humorous jokes. Any senior who stayed home because of a few snowflakes missed an outstanding evening of fun! It has been recommended that from time to time the organization recognize a senior citizen who has made great contributions to the center. We would like to recognize Amy Jensen of Aurora for the many services and assistance given to the center. This talented, sweet, pleasant lady is a top motivator of the quiltmaking activities. She marks all quilts, finishes the edges and is found working at the center three to four times each week. She also brings a carload of ladies from Aurora to quilting, lunches and the monthly socials. She is also in charge of the card and bingo games every Wednesday afternoon. This dedicated service serves recognition. de- Gunnison Valley High School reunion Saturday, May 24, as graduates from the past 76 years gather for an afternoon and evening of reminiscing. The event will begin at 4 p.m. with a reception and individual class meetings, followed at 6 p.m. with a banquet and program. The reunion coincides with the Memorial Day weekend and combines a community homecoming with reunion events. While announcements and reservation forms are being sent to as many graduates as the committee has names for, all alumni and their partners are invited to the event. We hope that everyone realizes they are invited to the event, whether or not they receive an invitation, she said. Community Care Center News Monday morning, February 24, Beth Ann Willden was welcomed back after being unable to visit the residents the last two Mondays. Beth Ann was excited about being able to see her granddaughters from Elko, Nevada play basketball. The story Beth Ann told was one written by Erma Bombeck, The Unappreciative Houseguest. The residents enjoy her stories and appreciate her willingness to share her special talent of storytelling. Residents gathered toa.m. for their daily exergether at cise group. Monday afternoon was exciting. A choir from Manti 2nd Ward consisting of about 25 girls, ages 8 to 2, presented a very nice program. Later that same evening Ray Smith came and entertained the group for family night. Tuesday, February 25, started off g visits. at with 10:30 a.m. with the help of Erma Anderson and Amy Gregerson. Exercises followed. Tuesday afternoon was quiet because it was Quality Assurance meeting at the Mayfield Cafe. Following snacks, the residents gathered for their exercises. That afternoon was spent playing cards. Thursday, February 27, the group held their monthly resident council meeting. Following the meeting, the residents attending the meeting were served rootbeer floats. That afternoon the residents had a good time making homemade pizza. They spent all afternoon preparing the different toppings for their pizza. Pizzas were made for each resident as much as possible. After supper on Thursday, Tim Christensen brought his guitar and played classical guitar music for the residents. The music was beautiful. Friday, February 28, was busy getting all the new calendars ready. Daily exercise group was held. Van ride scheduled for the afternoon was cancelled because of the snowstorm.
