Kristine Jensen D Vice-Preside- Mayfield spotlighted at SCEDD annual Recognition Banquet During their Seventh Annual Recognition Banquet, conducted February 21 at the New Piute County Court House. Junction, the Development District (SCEDD) and Panoranialand Resource ConserF.co-nom- ic ty vation and Development Council (RC&D) honored area businesses and community leaders for their exceptional efforts and contributions to economic and community development. Mayfield Town was presented with the regional beautification award. Mayor Christensen, Mt. Pleasant City and Chair of the Board and Council made this presentation and recognized the Town and Max field Lion's Club for their efforts in recent park renov ation, expansion, and beautification endeav- - ors. In addition, Mayfield was praised for their town's total beautification achievements. Receiving the award in behalf of Mayfield Town were Mayor Ace C. Robertson and Mr. Charles K. Whitlock, Vice President of Mayfield Lion's Club. Area members of the ty Economic Development District Board and Panoranialand Resource Conservation and Development Council, which sponsors the banquet in- clude: Commissioner J. Keller Christenson, Gunnison - Sanpete; Commissioner Peggy Mason. Aurora - Sevier; Mayor Lawrence Mason, Aurora: Mrs. Carolyn Brock, Ind.'Bus. Rep., Centerfield. Former resident named Utah President of WCR Diane M. Mathews was recently installed as 1997 State President of the Women's Council of Realtors. This year Utah is celebrating 25 years. WCR was established in 1938 by nine states. Today, with more than 30 chapters and 14,000 members, WCR has one of the most extensive and successful communication networks in the National Association of Realtors. Mathews r. Dianes duties include overseeing and guiding the Local Chapters when needed. She is required to attend the National Meetings and serve on Committees. Last year as President-eleshe organized the President Tea to bring together the leaders of the past 24 years in Utah. Diane Malmgren Mathews has been in the real estate business for ten years. She is married to Jim Mathews and they have eight children. The Mathews have resided in Bountiful for 17 years. Diane is associated with Wardley Better Homes & Gardens ct 45th Salt Lake office and helps familys relocate in Bountiful and surrounding communities and in the Salt Lake Valley. Diane enjoys traveling to Egypt and Israel assisting her husband with tour groups from BYU travel study. Diane is the daughter of F. Dw ight Malmgren and she was born and raised in Gunnison. She graduated from Gunnison Valley High. She at one time owned and operated the Fashion Beauty Salon. When she served as Vice President of the Gunnison Valley Jaycees, she organized and affiliated the Miss Gunnison Valley Pageant with the Miss Utah Pageant with the support of the valley merchants. She helped with the Miss Sanpete Pageant and the County program. Diane and her great uncle, Erv Roberts, started the Riding Club. Kristine Jensen of Centerfield recently competed in the Delta Epsilon Chi (DEX) 1997 State Career Development Conference with other members of her Southern Utah University DEX Chapter. The competition this year was held at Dixie College in St. George and was attended by chapters from colleges and universities throughout Utah. Delta Epsilon Chi (DEX) is a national marketing club. DEX teaches students leadership skills, team working skills, and marketing skills. Kristine attended the competition as a voting delegate for her Chapter and competed in 5 events: 3 group events and 2 individual events. Kristine and her partner placed eighth in the State in International 4 Heidi Brown Heidi Brown of Fayette has been named to Whos Who Among American High School Students. This is Heidi's fourth consecutive year of receiving this recognition which is given to only 5 of the nation's high school students. Fleidi is currently a senior at Gunnison Valley High School. She is currently serving as captain of the cheerleading squad and as FBLA president. Heidi also serves on the Gunnison Valley Youth City Council, is the Laurel President in her ward, and directs a marketing. church youth choir. For this event she had to pick a new business idea, prepare a prospectus detailing the business concept, marketing plan, project income and expenses, growth potential, customers, and all other information pertaining to starting a new business. She presented her prospectus to the judges and then had to be prepared to explain and defend it and answer any questions posed by the judges. After being judged twice, one in the preliminary round and then in the finals, Kristine emerged with First place in the State in this category.
