This means the broad, sandy beaches are almost nonexistent. Beach access is restricted to a few small areas on the west side of the reservoir. Water levels are expected o remain above norma! for several weeks, so access will be limited through the busy Fourth of July weekend. The reservoir will continue to be high because of increased precipitation rates and snow melt. Irrigation water drawn from the reservoir as the summer season progresses will lowerthe v'ater level exposing more sandy beach areas. The BLM manages 13.5 miles (66) of the shoreline of this very popular reservoir situated between the Juab and Mills Valley area 20 miles south of Ncphi along the Sevier River. Annual use by recreators during the past 20 years has risen from 30.00 to 300,000. for Contact Lynn Fergus in the BLM Fillmore office at (801) 743-68- 1 more information. 1 1 Each year, approximately 12,000 people are injured in firework related accidents. Over 40 percent of these injuries happen to children under 14 years of age. Firework injuries usually result in burns to the eyes, face and hands. The Utah Safety Council urges people to avoid home fireworks and to attend public firework displays. For those who plan to have home firework displays, here is a list of precautions. Always light fireworks outdoors in a clear area away from houses, cars and flammable materials. Never light devices in a container. Light one device at a time and maintain a safe distance after lighting. Never try to or handle malfunctioning fireworks; soak them with water and discard them. Never allow young children to use fireworks. Even seemingly harmless ht sparklers burn at 1,800 degrees fahrenheit and can cause disfiguring bums. Do not allow any running or horseplay while fireworks are being used. Establish emergency procedures before you begin. Have water handy, and teach children to stop, drop and roll if their clothes catch fire. For more information on firework safety, call the Utah Safety Council at 262-540- 0. I.
