| Show MOD CONTEST OFF some weeks ago the ladles ladies of the aisis improvement league inaugurated a yard cleana cleaning contest to be carried on by the boys and girls ot of the city for a period of several months during which competent judges would makes inspections regularly and at the end of the contest determine which boy or girl had made the biggest success the object of 0 the contest was not altogether to get rid of the cash premium gium which the league offered ott ered but for the greater purpose ot of improving yard conditions of the homes throughout the city something which unquestionably could be improved upon now however the ladies are compelled to call the contest off for this year for the sole reason that there Is no interest being taken either by parents or children excepting in five cases and the ladies feel that while the five contestants have ilone done splendid work vork in the matter of keeping the yards clean the number is too fw few to justify the payment ot of such a large premium the ladies feel just a little bit discouraged e cou raged chich cannot be wondered at but they may determine to try another year doing all in their power in the meantime to convert parents to the idea tit bf having their children start early in life to cultivate that civic pride which is an absolute nep neel to the best citizenship |
