| Show THE celebration the pioneer day celebration last monday was such a one as we used to have and very typical of the day itself from the decorations down to the minutest detail the spirit of the Oc occasion caslOn was as faithfully adhered to and one could almost imagine himself living in the early fifties the spirit of 47 was depicted along the entire line of the parade and the creations otherwise called floats were something marvelous as well as beautiful the days festivities we were re carried out according to previous arrangement with respect to time and the features early in the morning the sweet strains of music floated in the air coming from the direction of the court house whore where the brigham city military band was discoursing popular and patriotic music the decoration committee had got to work vork early in the wee hours and tastefully draped every electric light pole from the depot to main street and from first firs t north to third south with nith bunting flags ever evergreens eiers greens reena and sage the firemen did a splendid thing late sunday evening in getting out and thoroughly wetting down forest and slain main streets the sprinkler ma man n made a trip or two down second west to first north and east to main street along the route of the parade so that there was no dust whatever the pageant got started promptly at 10 the formation beu being made on 1st ast east back of the tati taber nacle and the line up was as follows I 1 D L rees mounted grand marshal 2 brigham city military band 3 3 3 brigham youngs carriage drav drawsby drawn by holmans atoot afoot and as the procession passed a long applause was frequent to make individual mention of each float would take up too much space but suffice it to say the parade was one of the best ever gotten up and the floats were a revelation of beauty and architecture the character groups were admirably doneald done and there Is nothing but congratulations for the parade committee and the firms who so nobly aided in making it a success A pathetic but very pleasing incident of the day was the leading of the parade back up 2nd and south street past the home of mrs susannah P boothe who had been moved from her bed to the window where she could see it it mrs boothe has hag hitherto occupied a prominent seat in the pioneer wagon but illness prevented her from taking part this year As the parade moved by the home the martial band stood and made the air resound with stirring music so that the aged honored lady within could feet fed that her comrades were not tor for continued on page four THE celebration continued from first page getting her in the midst ol of their festivities tivi ties As quickly as possible after the parade came to a halt bait the people turned toward the tabernacle where an excellent I 1 program was carried out and which has already been published othe ithe addresses of R L fishburn sr and seymour D young were listened to with great interest the former recited incidents of early life in which he was compelled to go tor for months without shoes in all kinds of weather and over all kinds ol of roads the address of dr young was of 0 a pioneer nature and dealt with the establishing ot of the church and the wanderings vande rings of the people across the plains one number not printed on the program and which fairly brot the house bouse down was a selection by the martial band which was encored As the band was playing several of the old veterans arose to their feet and with a smile of satisfaction on their faces marked time to the music it v vas as truly inspiring more so when one gazed upon tho the aged veterans who were so lustily blowing their fifes cifes and beating drums the hand band was composed of jacob jensen john evans willard Wi ilard lt immediately media teely meeting lunche lun che on and games ato at the city paar park were in order and the games committee did itself proud in the manner in chich sports were provided tor for the young people everything was jollification fi antii kinle corthe bi big ball game between the garland champions and the logan boosters boasters Bo which wa was s called at 3 0 the attendance at tile the ball game was a record breaker but an unpleasant feature was the charging or of 25 cents extra for a seat in the stand immediately behl behind d home plate without previous notification the game was a hummer from start to finish both teams scoring one in the first inning things move moved along evenly for or a few innings when the boosters boasters Bo scored three and then there was some ball playing lowe was in the bo for G garland ax land but he was decidedly out of form for he threw balls one after ai another iother and the visitors batted him plenty however the team worked like an automatic machine t and no more runs were scored until the first halt half of the ninth when garland scored one ramshaw who assisted garland made the two runs the team got and the final score was 42 t 2 favor of the boosters boasters Bo garland was also assisted by who played 2nd and base bae ramshaw held drown down the third sack there was a big bunch of rooters from logan losan and garland present and some money changed hands on oil the game the teams have played four games each winning two the moving loving 1 Inc pictures tures did a prosperous business and the dance halls were crammed with light hearted pleasure seekers the day passed off without an accident or disturbing incident there was a host of visitors from other cities present but friends and strangers mingled together in jolly good humor and every body had bad a good time the various committees appointed to work up the celebration are deserving a full measure of credit for their un tiling efforts the culmination of which was a celebration that pleased everybody from the youngest to the most aged |
