| Show DEATH OF BAUGHAN elder hyrum maughan of weston idaho son of john and Maria Maughan was born at weston idaho dec 17 1871 and died at anderson indiana friday june 3 1898 at a m in obedience to a call of the lord he was set apart dec 1 1898 for a mission to the northern states arriving at chicago dec ath he was appointed to labor at anderson indiana together w with ith elder jonathan H hale jr they labored together and made many friends march 12 13 and 14 1898 he met in conference at indianapolis with the elders of indiana after which he was assigned to labor in the same place with elder W R andrew elder maughan labored with a zeal 0 cheerfulness and love tor for his fellow man that was highly commendable hla his great faith in the lord was fully maintained to the last moment april he felt unwell and steadily grew worse with cramps until he was advised by his brethren to consult a doctor which he did other doctors were called in and all agreed that his trouble was a case of appendicitis and advised an immediate operation to which brother maughan willingly submitted feeling he was in the h hands ands 0 of f the lord in whose service he be was laboring accordingly y he was taken to st johns hospital april 4 and t the he performed by five I 1 surgeons through the blessings of 4 the lord he rallied successfully bronx I 1 the operation and alid began to improve rapid rapidly lk most of the siders elders of the mission made special lal mention of brother maughan in the prayers that if it be the will of the lord he be speed inree ly recover r from om his affliction ife he so fat far te recovered covered that on may the doctors advisee him to leave the hospital and go back to his bli perm room here gere ere he ate heartily and had boa great kibat fainn in his recovery rec otery he was dil advised by many to return home but his big answer wo was 1 I did not come here bere iere to fo return home come etil the lord calls me there june juide I 1 after em easing irig a hearty meal ten with cramps and ancl every I 1 b eap done to relieve urn 1 filard a or J E cas don was vas te I 1 for mand and ven went to on I 1 im ft be eto A yrtl W 0 h or thera ed ve abe leir q 4 lot take him to himself we all felt that his last hours had come and knew it lt riwa was the will of the lord that he was called back home for a greater work awaiting his coming he was hopeful and maintained conscious consciousness nes to the last A premonition by a dream was wa given him a short time before his sickness of his end but he took no particular notice of it elder maughan was an energetic laborer in the lords vineyard and did as much as lay in his power for the advancement of the cause he laid down his life in bringing salvation to his fellowmen fel he stood at his post a true hero and faithful servant of god Hs reward is that of a martyr his future hopes are great his mission of love is now in the eternal wo worlds ids the r remains ains of elder maughan were accompanied to chicago from anderson by elders joseph E cardon and W R andrew and after proper arrangements range ments with the railroads were accompanied to weston idaho by president Fres ident lewis A kelsch leaving chicago june 4 1898 at p m JOSEPH E CARDON secretary N S mission |
