Show NOTES FROM KENTUCKY L kentucky april 1897 As it has been nearly eleven months since I 1 left my mountain home in obedience to the call of the lord to perform a mission in the southern states I 1 trust it will not not be imposing upon you to ask space in your paper I 1 lett left home may irth 1896 after a quick yet pleasant trip we landed in Chatta chattanooga noo 9 a renn fennessee essee I 1 was assigned to the famous blue grass state as my field of labor and I 1 arrived on may at the city of queensboro Queen my first companion was the president of the conference elder S smith whose counsels and association I 1 enjoyed very much our conference convened june aoth where we had a very enjoyable time after conference I 1 was assigned to travel with elder F D richardson who has been released since we were to travel as meteoric elders a labor I 1 enjoyed very much I 1 am now traveling with elder I 1 C canfield I 1 have been greatly messed blessed of the lord not having been sick a day since I 1 came here I 1 have witnessed twenty six honest souls go down into the waters of baptism and in various ways have seen the power of god made manifest in behalf of those that love him and keep his commandments about the first of march we entered this county until then most of the people had bad not seen a mormon elder we entered the county lasting and praying we came to liberty the county seat As we travel without purse or scrip and depend upon the lord to raise up friends to administer to our wants he did so for when we called ou on the hotel hotel keeper and told him our mission and how we traveled and that we would like to spend the night with him he said he would be pleased to care for us the next da day he introduced us to several of the leaa leading men ot of the town and assisted us in ia securing the christian church to hold meetings in on the and dinst we met melt elders martin and pond who assisted us in holding meeting in the county seat we had an enjoyable time to gether and succeeded in making man many friends during the time we were holding meetings we were entertained royally at the exchange hotel as well as by lawyer stone when we left they invited us back the people in this county are very verr driendl friendly and the prospects are bright for a good harvest in the future I 1 must not forget to mention our friend the editor of the tribune of this county who so kindly gave us space in his valuable paper for the people of the south I 1 have bave nothing but praise in their hospitality I 1 dont think they can be surpassed by any other people in the world I 1 have learned to love them though I 1 cannot agres with many of them in in their regious us worship there are many gb good co honest nest souls though that belong I 1 to ft the different denominations but they have put so much confidence in their blind leaders that unless god intercedes in their behalf they never will be cou con vinced they are continually in doubt as to whether they are right and some even get angry at w u because we say we know we are right your valuable paper comes to hand regularly and is always perused with interest ALVIN |
