there y reports were received from the elal ek laboring in the districts of Carbon dap ift peckville reckville Pec kville oliphant providence 4 di te scranton the following represents t M reports combined and condensed J h work in the eastern part of pennsyl was e enlarged to its present dimensions during the past summer last april gelderd JEl elder derD D R gill was sent to ta take ke charge of that field and joined elders crockett crockeit edwards and fuller other elders were sent t there here at different times through the summer until they now number fifteen the people are principally welsh and the leading industry is coal mining indifference to the gospel is is general sume some who might the people sone listen en are intimidated by their ministers fad censured tor for even accepting tracts the catholics who are numerous will bot take tracts on any account to do so confession of sin most would be a people interested in w k hat the elders say dissatisfied with their own are aft either church or else not church goers at all several out outdoor door meetings have been hold held through the summer but the ministers soon inter interfered and had them prohibited also attacked the ministers hibi ted the auders through the press and worked up excitement in scranton however aue an this had the good effect of arous int ln curiosity and dinv inv investigation esti have some friends but no mem the condition of affairs in northern vermont as reported by elder chas giles gile is like that in other districts the people people seem satisfied with their present condition and pay little attention to the testimony of the great latter day work in behalf of the brooklyn elders I 1 will say that we enjoyed our visit much we found the brethren feeling well and making noticeable progress under the divine blessing in the study of theology logy and bible history and in the ability of announcing their important message with power and plainness to thie the
