Show FROM AN ELDER ABROAD the following is from a letter dated at munich germany written by elder le roi C snow to relatives in utah over eight months have passed since I 1 saw raw any of you my two first months after leaving home were spent in the united states visiting the largest cities and the most important places in american history while in jackson county missouri I 1 had the pleasure of walking over the sacred temple site in ohio I 1 spent several hours under the roof of the kirtland temple built under the direction of the prophet joseph and in the state stale of new york I 1 saw the hill cumorah the sacred spot where the angel moroni stood and delivered the golden plates to the boy prophet in all these places as you may suppose I 1 truly felt that I 1 was standing upon holy ground where angels and prophets have trodden where the heavens have been opened and the keys and authority of gods kingdom have again been restored to the earth my visit to niagara falls new york boston and washington was verain very interesting te and the ten days on the mighty atlantic will ever be remembered with much pleasure my first three months in europe were passed in england ireland scotland wales and the beautiful isle of man during this time I 1 visited nearly all of the conferences of our church in the british isles and distributed many hundreds of tracts preached from house to house and upon the street corners in in london and in many other large cities while in the vicinities of manchester and preston I 1 saw brother blackburn blackburnn Black burns ss picture and heard much of his very suc suea labors and many of his acquaintances wish to be remembered to him while in stratford on avon I 1 visited all of the points connected with the life of william shakespeare the two most interesting being his bis home and his grave while in wales I 1 saw judge john D peters and brother david un reese eese of brigham the six weeks I 1 passed were among the most interesting of all the time since leaving home leaving great britian last august I 1 spent several weeks in holland bel gium france and in the rugged and beautiful alps of switzerland in lousanna I 1 I 1 met brother george graehl well and happy we left home together and I 1 had haa the pleasure of his company during a portion of my travels in the united States since then however I 1 have been entirely alone with the exception of a short distance with dent wells while visiting the national exposition in the beautiful world re downed city of geneva I 1 had the extreme pleasure of a trip fifteen hundred feet in the air in a huge balloon the scenery around lake geneva and in the alps of switzerland is among the grandest in the world on the first of september I 1 received my appointment to labor in the muti muni pi branch of germany where I 1 have tr been for two months through my tv t years study of the german language 4 1 lore fore leaving home I 1 was enabled to c GO mence work at once and through alz help of the lord I 1 have upon eve ev occasion been able to understand f make myself understood q the city of munich alone contti cont ki more people than the entire state utah though the people are in aft a sa of condition in many respects munich aki 1 l the leading city for music in the womb worl the common hotels and small theata have nearly as fine orchestras as I 1 tty ev 8 heard in america though they dri di i r beer in equal proportion I 1 do lc think I 1 say enough when I 1 say that ev man and woman in this great city drick arii r y two quarts of beer each day and ma 4 of them from eight to twelve quart tsi sw lay there is a beer hall in every fourth sr fifth house A child begins to drink b h r about as soon as he begins to dri milk from his mothers breast and i word beer is the first word he lear to repeat I 1 am surprised not to s more drunkards than I 1 do but the p aest p pie le have been swimming in beer for many generations that I 1 do not supply kuppr sup pr 0 it takes saint the schools are 4 1 catholic and the children are a L prayers for every day in the vea different one the houses both insi and outside have paintings of chri the etc t S mary joseph apostles most the churches are almost filled with i 1 lie ages of christ the apostles mary L ILIA x many bishops of the catholic chur 1 all of the people every day must go 1 1 to one of these churches dip tt tx
